Can't access BT settings on Windows 8.1 (Atheros AR3012)

Hi,

Need your advise.

I've install my new laptop (Asus N550JV), which armed with Qualcomm Artheros AR3012 Bluetooth card.
The OS is Windows 8.1 (all updates installed).

At first, BT was sort of working. Sort of, because I was able to connect my BT mouse, but on a random basis, the mouse got connected and disconnected.

So... I've tried to do the logical move, and went to Asus` website in order to update the BT drivers. And so I did.

From that point not only that I can't connect my BT mouse but also I'm unable even to access BT settings. When I select Bluetooth on the settings nothing happens. It just gets stuck.

In the device manager BT seems to be installed and running just fine, no error coded whatsoever.

I'll be more than happy for your advise.

This could possibly be related to a problem I'm having with the Atheros AR3002 bluetooth on my Windows 8.1 tablet. The settings thing happens for me too, but in my case it does not prevent my bluetooth mouse/keyboard from connecting. On my tablet, if I turn bluetooth off then on again from PC settings, the bluetooth settings option in the system tray app then works, maybe you could try that.

My problem is with establishing a bluetooth PAN with my android phone. It worked once, then after that the tablet refuses to acknowledge that the phone provides a PAN service, and won't display the 'access point' option in the connect to menu in PANs. I've tried everything you have, inc. a system restore (but not a full wipe, there's too much software on there now for that!) and various driver versions, but have had no luck.

Unfortunately, my AR3002 isn't supported by any other bluetooth stack. But you could check if for example the current BlueSoleil supports your AR3012, if its a stack problem rather than a driver one that might be worth trying.

I had issues with BT and Windows 8.1 on my new acer laptop, and the solution was to update the BT drivers. I believe my acer laptop is using the Atheros BT adapter as well, however, I'm not on while I'm typing this up or I would know for sure. I did get the latest version the BT drivers from acer, and once I installed them, I was able to connect to my phone and it would stay connected. So I would keep checking Asus website for updated BT drivers. Hope this helps.

I will attach a picture of how my Device Manager looks as far as Bluetooth. This is on a Z87-Expert motherboard.

Asus seems to have two driver files for this Bluetooth. I may be just the drivers and one the entire Bluetooth Suite. The two items under other devices disappeared after I loaded the Bluetooth suite drivers.

I am not suggesting you load any drivers, just giving us something to compare Bluetooth installs.

Edit: When I posted this originally I added a Bluetooth mouse to my new system which has an external Bluetooth antenna. It has been working well for this time, where an earlier system using the same mouse was very undependable.

I have no idea why this has worked, but I've managed to fix the bluetooth PAN problem. In desperation I re-downloaded the latest (8.0.1.305) unofficial Windows 7/8 drivers from atheros.cz and installed them. After installation I checked device manager and noticed the Windows 8 driver (not the Atheros one) was still being used for the radio, and I now had one device related to bluetooth audio marked as 'device cannot start'. Instead of messing with any of this, I just rebooted. The device with a problem disappeared, and when pared with my smartphone the "access point" option is now available again. The Atheros stack actually seems to be working OK with the Microsoft driver but not its own!

I still have the problem with bluetooth settings mentioned by amir77a, but as I mentioned before there's an easy workaround for that.

Acer 3830TG, atheros BT AR3011. Acer driver suite installs but errors out on boot. cannot load BT tray.
I have tried and tried drivers but to no avail. There are no updated drivers on Acer site. I also tried the drivers linked on atheros.cz site but they don't seem to work either.

Hey guys! I see found this thread and have noticed it has gotten any support. I am also having this same issue on my laptop. Anybody got any solutions?? The Driver I downloaded from Asus does not seem to be updating the driver on my laptop. Driver on the website says update to version 8.0.1.316 and when i do the install my driver says Version 8.0.1.242

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have a bluetooth card which I believe is the same listed as a Dell Qualcomm Atheros
and I am getting a several errors related to this.


The adapter has stopped working and the driver has been unloaded

The adapter was sent a command from Windows and did not respond and timed out

Windows cannot store BT authentication codes on the local adapter. Keyboards might not work in the
system BIOS during start up.

The description for event id 26 from source BtFilter cannot be found . Either the component that raises this even is not
installed on the local computer or the install is corrupted.

I haven't found any solutions and this is a brand new PC Dell Inspiron 660

Just for the information of any reader of this post.

I've purchased a new WiFi card (Intel 7260ac), installed it, and all the problems seems to blow in the wind.

So.. it seems that the problem was a hardware issue or drivers related.
