Hallo,

I have searched endlessly on Google to try and find a solution to my problem, I hope I can find it here.

I cannot turn on Bluetooth on my Asus Notebook X551M (Windows 8 - 64 bit)

Apparently there is a button somewhere on the laptop where you can turn it on, I've looked and searched but cannot find it.

If I go to SETTINGS > CHANGE PC SETTINGS > WIRELESS then I can see several items such as BROADBAND, WI-FI and BLUETOOTH, but the bluetooth is just a solid grey, there is no way to turn it on. The broadband and wi-fi are turned on, but you cannot set the bluetooth to ON mode.

I re-installed new drivers (as recommended on the Asus official driver website, but nothing works.

Please help me to turn it back on!!

On most laptops now, there's a keyboard combo you press to turn these things on/off and that requires special software to be installed in order to properly interpret these signals. And are you absolutely positive that your specific model has BT built in? It doesn't say something like "BT Ready" which is marketing speak for "no BT on this model you cheap *******." If you go to the device manager, you see listings under Bluetooth?

On the Asus website the specs list Bluetooth as optional on that model. Are you sure your laptop has that option?

Yes, it does have bluetooth in the Device Manager. Underneath Bluetooth it shows MEDIATEK BLUETOOTH ADAPTER and MICROSOFT BLUETOOTH ENAMURATOR.

I recently installed a Bluetooth device called BT.2.0 which , if you troubleshoot had several drivers that needed updating, i updated most of them EXCEPT one called BLUETOOTH PROFILE INTERFACE DRIVER, which I simply cannot update, I have tried everything.

Did you check your manual? Note the BIG BOLD IMPORANT! notice on page 61 where it says Bluetooth is disabled in Airplane mode.

So, you're saying that you are using a USB Bluetooth adapter? Have you tried looking for the website of the mfr of that adapter to see if they have updated drivers? If this is a cheap, generic adapter you may be out-of-luck and may need to try a different adapter in order to find one that all the drivers can be installed.

I have used a number of these cheap, generic adapters on Win 7 & Win 8 and have had really good luck with them, just plugged them in, Windows installed the drivers and they worked. You may have just gotten one with flaky drivers.
