Set the "minimum power consumption" to disabled under the driver's advanced options. Also disable pcie link state power management under power options. Hope this fixes your issues since I also have a Broadcom adapter without issues.

Laptop half-mini cards are pretty cheap on Ebay. Or grab one from local shop. Would be worth it to me just to test.
