BSOD random - Wdf01000.sys, Surface 3

This driver is not familiair for me, espescially because it is a surface, but if it was from Microsoft there usually is more information.

I'm pretty sure it is in fact a microsoft driver. From what I can find online, it has something to do with the optional keyboard cover you can attach to it (which I don't have). I have ran a full virus scan and got no threats detected. The tablet has barely been connected to the internet at all, so a virus would really surprise me.

One thing that I keep wondering about is the registry hack to just turn off the screen in stead of putting the tablet into sleep mode. I will disable this and see if that changes anything, unless you have other suggestions?

Edit: upon typing this, the tablet suddenly went to a black screen, and afterwards gave me the message "the display driver stopped working and had recovered". Seems like there's really something going on there.

That is something a lot of people are mistaking.
You don't need to have internet connection to get infected.

What registry edit did you made?
Do you have the source?

The registry tweak, has it been added before or after the crashes?

Definitely before the current crashes. I'm not entirely sure if it was there when the first crash happened in August. I think I just never noticed because I never ran the tablet for a longer amount of time.

I have now set the screen to never turn off, nor go into sleep mode. This way the registry edit should never be triggered. I'll see if that changes anything.

Short update: the tablet has been running for more than 5 days now, without a blue screen. Unless this is a huge coincidence, it looks like the registry change was indeed the cause of the blue screen :(
Thanks for all your help!!
