Solved BSOD every 10 minutes, could barely get this information

Get a BSOD every 10 minutes or so, have a Frankenstein PC I have assembled over the years. Worked great on Win 7, not at all now on Win 8 pro.

Seems to happen more so after a dialog box opens.

Should have known better than to adopt Win 8 so quickly.

You wouldn't happen to be using Avast anti-virus would you? There is a known issue with Avast and Win8 currently.

Sure would, is there a free alternative you could suggest?

I'm running with the built in Windows Defender (which is now a full blown A/V) until Avast get it sorted out.

Uninstalled, restarted and for the first time no BSOD when the java updater dialog window popped up. Hope this does it.
