Hello all,

on the 22nd May this I have my first and no doubt only boxing fight. It is a charity white-collar fight night where all the boxers are in the IT channel, mainly solution providers.

If interested this is the event:
Home - CRN Fight Night 2014

The perfect chance to deface and humiliate myself in front of 500 people while attempt to throw a half decent punch... :)

Although by Monday I need to come up with my walk in music!

Would love to hear everyone’s suggestions.

Cheers,
Harry

Let big Ben Whitehouse know you are going to punish the body!

You'll need the sombrero too! Get the theme here:

Hope this will be on youtube at some point in time. Good luck!

Ok, then maybe you could get a bit more funky and remind big Ben that you are "undefeated" to date?

great to see you getting in to this, just clocked that you looked up who I was fighting "Big Ben"!! I have no idea how big he is I will not be meeting him till fight night...

well so far I am undefeated, let's up I can keep that up.

that is better, bit more intimidating; not sure if i should go pure intimidation or add a little comedy.

OK, here's one for ya... How about the Irish Mickey Ward theme "Whitesnake" from the movie "The Fighter?"

Get the music here:

This should pump you up!

The body is the key! Many untrained fighters can take a ton of punishment to the head but a single "well placed" body punch will immobilize big Ben and he will drop like a lead balloon! Can you tell I'm a big fight fan?

Good video, I want to get training now! get 12 weeks of training at an amazing looking gym in London. Looks like a stereotypical gym from a rocky film.

Will have to take that information and use it! I do not know anything about fighting yet so it is going to be an interesting learning curve.

ha no never... do not sound passionate about it at all ;)

you can give a me a warm up speech to get me ready to rumble! :thumb:

P.s thanks for the rep.

You may need more than a warmup speech! I just did a boxing search for big Ben Whitehouse and it yielded this image:

bigben2.jpg

See... I told you that hitting him in the head will do nothing. Hmm... maybe hitting him in the body might not work either. Maybe you need to concentrate on defense a bit too!

All in jest.

As long as the match up does not look like this:

giantboxer.jpg

haha I agree think I will go for the motto of the best offence is a good defence!!

The coach said he would be teaching me a more defence fighting style... all i know is I am southpaw, which is supposedly awkward.

A great followup image (of big Ben) and great commentary too!

all i know is I am southpaw
Yes! You have the advantage! Deliver a strong liver punch and that should end it! The liver is located on the right side of your body, so you'll have to hit your opponent on the bottom of the ribcage with your left hand, usually with a good left hook.

This is my last suggestion but this was definitely more fun than asking. "Did you try this or that?"

All in jest.

Good luck to you,

Thanks my2cents :) I will keep you in the loop on how it is going!

Hey again Harry,

As a boxing fan, I can't seem to get away from this thread. Anyway, here's my first amateur fight. Notice the guy in the white briefs keeps trying to hit me in the head and I simply push him away. I eventually took him out with a single body shot but they edited the film to remove his nasty fall (when I pounded him with a left hook to you know where):

Well, this is interesting. What kind of shape are you really in, Harry? Are you involved in any athletics? Have you ever been? I mean can you make it running around the block a few times? Boxing is about throwing punches and where, but it's is a lot about conditioning too.

Nice technique, Dave. :p

I am not in bad shape, i have been in better but last few months focused to much on being a geek then on fitness. I used to do long distance running when I was a little younger and I have played rugby all my life. I am not that unfit I have a 54 resting heart beat if that is anything to go by..

I should be able to run around the block a few times... depends how big the block is ;)

Yep I am going to be dedicating my mornings to the gym to get back to a warrior conditioning!!

You are a fan and watch it, right? Seems you know a few things.

I was a wrestler and weight lifter mostly, but I did a little boxing in high school. Harry, you need to run for conditioning as well. Dave is right about body punches, but you don't want to take head hits as an amateur either. I'm sure you'll be wearing a helmet. They also have belts for the mid body. They help, but you'll still feel it.

You want to punch a bag and learn how to throw some in the ring, but you want to do a lot of sit ups to toughen the stomach and some running for conditioning.

I respect what your doing, but I hope this guy isn't too big or a lot more athletic. Have you seen or know him?

All good advice! With that said, get the best protection money can buy...

This should provide max protection against head and body shots!
