Botched Patch Tuesday Updates Also Causing Problems on Win

As I’ve reported a couple of hours ago, three of the updates released by Microsoft on this month’s Patch Tuesday cycle are causing trouble to Windows 7 users and ask to be installed over and over again.

While KB2760411, KB2760588, and KB2760583 patches are reportedly affecting Windows Vista and 7, two different updates seem to break down Outlook 2013 on Windows 8 and 8.1.

Both KB2810009 and KB2817630 are reportedly responsible for a number of issues, including an empty folder pane, unavailable list of email accounts, folders and favorites.

Uninstalling these two updates seems to be the only way to fix these problems until Microsoft rolls out an official workaround.

These seem to install but keep re appearing as updates when re checking for updates

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760588) Download size: 7.5 MB
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2760411) Download size: 7.7 MB
Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB2810048) Download size: 4.9 MB

I don't have office 2007 , I use office 2003
Me too!

The same three updates keep coming round for me as well. This is also on Office 2003 (with the 2007-file-format-reading add-on).

It seems I've installed them 3 times so far... I should perhaps have noticed this earlier! (Because I download updates manually.)

I imagine some folks with their updates set to automatic are endlessly downloading them in an infinite loop without noticing.:roflmao:

No - but my laptop is an old one and only really up to 32 bit Windows 8, so not surprising if I don't have a problem with an x64 update.;)

I took a look at them, *almost* said install but a bird on my shoulder said to check in here first. Phew...

Microsoft is turning into nothing but a bunch of rookies, about as bad as Oracle with their ERP system maintenance bundle testing. Or lack thereof.

Eh, this isn't the first time Mircsoft has had failing updates espcially in a preview\RTM version. Although embarrassing that's it's happening in multiple other OS's.

On a second examination, it does give me the impression that the update service, at least in my case, is not very good at detecting what Office components a user has installed. The only parts I have use for, are publisher and Word. Yet (it has stopped now) I was being harassed with:Security Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB2810009) 64-Bit Edition.

When I read the blurb on the Microsoft page, it says this is a security update for Access, which I do not have installed

how to make it sorted .. making it placed into the hidden list is not a solution but an option to stop it from getting reinstall again and again as what has been mentioned .. but an apt sort out of the same trouble is really of need

I presume those updates are dedicated to Office 2003/2007 because I'm not getting any similar problems with Office 2010 on either Win7 or Win8.

I don't really know. I am retired so just use Word and Excel for home things. Nothing major.

I bought 10 late enough in the game where I got a free upgrade to 13 when it was released. When I installed 13 it left 10 out there. I tend to use 10 more, I like the look and feel better. 13 is ok if you like the flattened "run over by a truck" and Metroized look. I don't see any advantages of one over the other. If I had to pay for the upgrade, I wouldn't and would stick with 10. Just my opinion, that and $2.50 will get ya a Starbucks. :)

The answer to this would probably depend on who you are and what is your occupation. For "writer laymen" (like me), I don't really feel that any of the "improvements" since Office 2007, have had any impact on my writing skills (loll). Those add-ons and improvements are really only of value to professionals in the writing/accounting , etc, fields.

I am running office 2013 pro, there are a few differences, you can open a pdf and edit it then save it back to a pdf
there are many graphic options updates
Some say they do not like it because it is very bright (this does not bother me)
I find it better than office 2010 but if you can get it at a good price then upgrade otherwise hang in with it

my version of office pro 2013 is differrent than some of the others- it has Click to Update Virtulaztion in it so it updates without using Windows update, it puts a red icon on the taskbar when there are updates and does them automatically

.. that TBH is a bit of an understatement... to me it's like looking into headlights...

Thanks for the input everyone. :thumb:

I have since purchased it on disk from retail shop, and it's true it is brighter than 2013. However, though I'm still in the exploratory phase it does seem to have enhanced features that assist the work I do with Excel in particular, and PDF editing is a nice little bonus.

I personally don't mind the bland look, but the brightness is a bit hard to take. Otherwise all OK. Cheers M :D
