Solved Bluetooth sudenly gone/deleted/stoped working?

Hi guys.
Usually I manage to solve my computer problems by myself but I've just encountered really interesting one few weeks (or more) ago. I'm totally out of ideas so here it is:
My HP probook 4710s 3-4 y/o came with integrated BlueTooth which worked fine with his Windows 7. However, when I started studying I got free student's win8.1 licence and I was like why not.
I had bluetooth even after that. I used it on my 8.1 with no problems.
I paired my phone and my Logitech headset with it and it all worked until it didn't!
For no obvious reason, bluetooth icon on tray disappeared and I couldn't access BT settings via PC setting from Start. Whole BT tab is gone. I can still see my phone and headset is paired to PC but it can not connect to it or vice versa.
Even more interesting, bluetooth service is still running xD
I downloaded driver upgrader and it upgraded 22 of my drivers but still..... NO BLUETOOTH

It's really annoying....
What I tried:
1. As mentioned, driver upgrade
2. Can't find win8 drivers for my PC on HP website. Apparently, my laptop can't run win8 (lol) or can't have BT on it (I had it so lol) but I tried to do that too.
3. I tried to re-pair devices, send/receive a file which all worked before
4. I tried installing BT managers and driver downloaders, they more or less give me an error when installing or if install won't work :/
5. I was too scared to uninstall my network adapter from device manager so I didn't do that...


Do you guys know what might cause BT to fail? If I knew why it failed I could fix it 100% :/

The HP site doesn't list any 8.1 drivers which is concerning.

What make/model of wireless adapter is installed? Chances are the BT is on the same card. If we can find new 8.1 drivers for the wireless with BT it may work. Otherwise you may have a dead BT chip.

Trying to find good drivers for a generic broadcom device without a specific model number is going to be very difficult. I don't know if HP is a model that even accept generic drivers, Acer does.

Have seen cases where the BT is not even recognized in Device Manager until proper drivers are installed. Unless you can find more specifics on exactly what model of adapter you have I'm at a loss right now.

May want to ask HP if they have 8.1 drivers for your model laptop.

How can I get model number?
Is it same as it's unique serial number?

The part I can't explain is why did it work before? Plus I reinstalled Windows on that machine 5 times at least, last time was year + few months ago and BT was working fine on Vista (stock OS), win 7, win7 ultimate and even win8.1 which was my last upgrade. ... It stopped while ago. I had BT all this time without separate driver instalation...

I'm starting to think it's hardware like you mentioned. It's more consistent...
So, I'll try to get model number and ask for drivers from HP just in case. I should email them right?
Just tell me what exactly is the model number and where can I find it :/

You can go to Device Manager and get the Hardware ID (top one) then copy and paste a search for it with your browser. Should come back with hits on the exact make/model.

It may very well be that your BT chip has failed.

Did some googling and found a driver via this page
Picked latest driver and it gave me an error (as always)

It's in croatian, is says "There has been an error 'Update.cpp 1205' and instalation can not continue".
I ll try to google the error code.....

EDIT 2:
This was easy to find. Apperently it indicates that my adapter is not supported in win8.1. I have internet on it doe and BT used to work...
IDK anymore....

It doesn't look good, all I can find is very old posts with no 8.1 drivers. The thing with 8.1 is a device might work for awhile without specific 8.1 drivers on generic Microsoft drivers then stop. No idea why that is so but have seen it.

Call HP and may want to consider replacing your wireless adapter with a newer one that also has BT. They aren't that expensive and are easy to replace in most cases. A bit like adding/replacing RAM.

It's been a while.
Just wanted to report back and say that my problem is fixed. I didn't contact HP after all...
My BT hardware got fried because of heating issues of my laptop (It's like HP trademark, or it used to be.... heating issues)
Anyways, it's been resolved and my BT is magicly back! I used Device Manager auto find and it found it ^^
