Best way to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 pro.

If you are in the market for a new computer, you can sometimes find it's cheaper to get the new machine with Pro, versus upgrading it yourself.

Be warned, if you buy a cheap key off of e-bay etc, and it fails activation, there is no easy way to go back to 8.1. Activation isn't done/checked until the first reboot after upgrading to Pro. If it fails then you have to reinstall the non Pro version to go back to your working product code.. Many many people have been burned by cheap keys bought online. If the deal seems to good to be true, it is. ;)

Thank you for responding so quickly, I bought 8.1 Pro on internet site, with activation by phone and the windows is activated for about 50$.

The activation by internet wasn't possible, it was written that the key was already activated on an other computer.
Which is exactly why this $50 key is going to give you problems in the future. It's been sold to more than 1 person and when multiple of you keep activating it, it's going to get shutdown. Just spending the $99 on the Pro Pack upgrade would have been a much better idea.

The key will eventually get flagged in the MS activation system and even the phone activation will no longer work.

Two weeks ago I have reported a counterfeit product on microsoft's website, but no answer from them, I wait.

They are hopefully investigating it...there are legal steps to be taken, and we all know what a drudgery that is... but they should have at least acknowleged receipt. Don't worry it's a common problem - their online reporting sucks.

Good on you for following through. Can you PM me the details and I'll see if I can escalate it through my MS partner contacts.
