Thanks my2cents...
Look, I did it, I uninstalled the driver and the screen changed completely, so after rebooting, it automatically installed itself again.
I have a question: When I right click to uninstall the drive, there is an option for removing all the software of the driver that appears unselected.. Should I select this option too? I don`t have the original driver of the video card.

This is the screen after clicking the uninstall option and as you can see there is a a way to delete the software of the driver, just selecting the selectable option

Yes, delete the software as well. Then try to install the latest Beta drive which should work for 8.1. BTW, that software box has nothing to do with your original driver which has been long gone for quite some time.

AMD/ATI brands everything below 5XXX as "legacy". I suggest you try "amd_catalyst_13.4_legacy_beta_vista_win7_win8" driver, it solved my problems.

I have an AMD HD 4290 and the LATEST AMD driver that I can get working with it is Catalyst 13.1. I've tried 13.4 and later and they won't work.

My Computer

Look, I really don`t know what is going on because I uninstalled the Microsoft's drive and the software, then I restarted my computer and after that and automatically, the driver installed "itself" again. So, I decided to disconnect from internet and repeat the procedure again. After restarting my computer, I installed the Catalyst and restarted again the computer. Finally, when it was up and running again (the computer), no new driver was installed and when I reconnected the computer to internet, the Microsoft's driver was back immediately. Is there any way just to add the driver's "inf" file?

You can start driver setup and than stop it after it extracts it to default folder, probably C:/AMD, you can find .INF file in C:/AMD/ Packages / Drivers/ W8_inf folder.

Hi there I was having the same problems I thought I would share my findings with the OpenGL v2.0 issue on AMD Radeon 4000 series cards.

After much Google searching I found this post indicating that all the AMD Radeon cards prior to the 5000 series that run with Windows 8.1 will only have support for the WDDM 1.1 driver @ AnandTech | AMD Radeon HD 2000, HD 3000, & HD 4000 Video Cards Being Moved To Legacy Status In May In essence this means that the WDDM v1.1 legacy driver will sadly limit your OpenGL capability to v1.2 which is very poor considering the maximum available is v4.5, you can find out what version your system is capable of my installing the OpenGL extensions viewer @ OpenGL Extensions Viewer
The only option that I had was an new graphics card. I now have a AMD Radeon 6000 with 2GB cost £35 that runs with the later WDDM 1.2 with no problems.

Here's the official Microsoft Windows Display Driver Model v1.2 posting for Windows 8.1 @ https://msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn653369%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

;) You might also want to check which GPU will work on your current motherboard before you upgrade. I found this great website that will help you. This is what I found out for my aged Foxconn A6VMX mobo running with a PCIe v2.x slot (PCIe 1x16) the maximum that I would accept was a card from AMD Radeon 6000 series @ Foxconn A6VMX Mobo Compatible PC GPUs

just wanted to chime in that installing the driver from catalyst version 13.1 worked for me. i'm not a gamer, just wanted my native resolution back after upgrading from W8 to W8.1. version 15.5B did not work, and i didn't try 13.4 once 13.1 worked. HTH someone.

my exact card is: GIGABYTE GV-R455D3-512I Radeon HD 4550 512 MB

AMD calls any HD 4xxx "Legacy" product so drivers have that word in their name.
