As you are using a Full Retail/OEM product to dual boot, return DVD to your Retailer for a replacement.

thanks. I'm not using an official disc from a retailer, I'm using a disk that I burned the iso onto. This disc successfully installed Windows 8 on a different laptop and I don't know why it won't work on this computer. The disc itself is not damaged in any obvious way, so that can't be it.

I don't know what brand they are (they have no label) or where I bought them. They are a couple years old, but I've used them recently to burn DVDs and they worked perfectly. If there was any confusion from my last post, I meant to say "Disc" not "disk", as the latter is associated with "hard drive" disks.
