Hi there

Welcome to "Automated phone systems" and Customer (Dis-)service.

My first TWO acts if I ever become dictator of Planet Earth would be to BAN Macdonald's and Automated Phone systems.

Fortunately a lot of places are finally realizing that Customers do NOT like listening to Hideous music, being told that "Your Call is Important to Us" and paying through the nose for the privilege of waiting for 35 minutes only to speak to someone on the opposite side of the planet who can only answer prepared scripts, has absolutely NO powers whatsoever to actually FIX your problem and end up saying "I'm Sorry but ......." in an almost impossible to understand dialect of some form of "INGLISHESE".

Ms isn't the only business guilty of this type of "Service".

Banks are particularly Consumer / customer unfriendly with this -- I've nothing against some really good colleagues from India but do I really need or want to discuss my finances with people in another continent who are probably being paid LESS in a month than I get in an Hour (in good times) and have absolutely NO IDEA of our social systems or lifestyles.

I think these types of "Services" fortunately have passed their "Sell by date" although it may take a few years to re-patriate this type of stuff and actually get HUMANS to answer telephones again.

Incidentally I'd love to run a test Court case against any company who tells me "Your Call is important to us" and then makes me wait 20 - 30- minutes --charging me all the time - before passing me to some hopeless automaton who really has less idea of fixing your problem than possibly your late Grandma's dead cat.

At least spare me the HIDEOUS music or give me a choice if I have to wait - and why not bring back the system we had in place more than 20 YEARS AGO -- if the number is busy - you could press a key on the phone and then you'd get a CALLBACK when the number was finally free). - Perhaps a bit of "Back to the Future" would be in order here.
