Any June 2015 Updates To Avoid ?

Just one app/software can break everything, especially security software. Not to mention, that 99% people just do not maintain their PCs, they leave it to Windows, which is still far from perfect and it gets worse.

I have found if I get a system hiccupsmile.gifI just manually start maintenance(which takes longer and uses more resources as the automatic daily because it forces every task) and the hiccup goes away.

I have found this practice to be very effective as well. I never sleep my desktop so auto maintenance cannot run at 3 AM and I do not want to schedule it to run at any time that I may be using my PC so I simply trigger it manually on a regular basis, walk away and let it do it's thing and finish on it's own.

I am more than a little peeved at the updates for my HP laptop from Microsoft. The upgrades for my Dell (Windows 7) PC install without issues. The updates for my HP Laptop (Windows 8.1) take forever and recently have been failing with regularity. Last nights update took hours and when I started the laptop this morning I saw a message, "Failure configuring windows updates, Reverting Changes, Do not turn off your computer". Both the PC and the Laptop have the same antivirus software etc so I do not think this should be an issue. My guess is that Windows 10 is being developed because Windows 8.1 is a piece of junk. Not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas other than buy a MAC? Thanks.

On second thought.......My laptop is back online after the update failed and this action was reverted. Since Windows 10 is scheduled to be released on July 29th, I think it might be prudent to just cancel (if possible) any new updates and then install the Windows 10 when it becomes available. I went into the Settings but could not find the switch to shut off automatic updates. Does anyone know how to accomplish this without undue risk? Thanks again.

Many of us update 8 and 8.1 without issue. Jumping ship to an Apple may or may not be helpful. I have a Mac, and it's a different animal altogether. Some things I like, some things I don't. I'm not blown away by it in any way. And I'm not going Apple only in the future. In fact, i'm planning out parts for a new desktop build of windows 10 for my son and I.

My recommendation would be to start with a clean OS install. Don't install software you don't need, and don't use any hacked, or preactivated pirated copies of stuff (as I think these things can break other things). Take an image of your machine so you can quickly revert back if need be.

Thanks CliffS and PParks1. I should have remembered to go to the control panel and not the settings icon on the right margin of the screen! I will make that change now. PParks1 makes a good point of not installing software that is questionable and I certainly have not done that. We use Norton 360 to take care of checking any downloads and rarely install software of any type; i.e. I do not do games, music, etc on my laptop. In fact very little computing is actually done since it is used primarily for web browsing. Thanks again to both of you. Have a good day.
