Hi there
Not sure I like this "Activate over the Internet" -- I might want to use this product on a computer that's totally ISOLATED from the Internet (like a SECURE server for instance).

I'll look for something else too when I'll upgrade.

For me with the little trick I did ATH 2011 works just fine --no Internet activation required. However I'll probably need something when I start using USB3 external drives.

Cheers
jimbo

Jimbo,

You can activate a standalone computer, from another computer. You more or less create a file on the machine it's installed on, and then copy that file to a machine with internet access. You submit it to Acronis, and they give you some type of file code back that you then input into the standalone machine. So, it's doable.

I just got a little liberal with my ATIH 2010 license and used it on a few of my own machines. I'm not sure I am willing to pay for 3-4-5 copies of Acronis. Will look at Macrium Reflect free instead.

I like how Acronis are 'working' on making 2012 compatible yet they have a 2013 version out which runs fine. I've upgraded anyway as I had it on offer.

What version did Acronis start requiring Internet activation? I've been a paying customer of Acronis 2010 and I do use it on a couple of my home personal computers for testing and 1 is my real workstation, but during the eval of the 2013 product, i see that you have to activate the product now over the Internet.

Unsure if I want to buy 3-5 copies of Acronis, or whether I will just flip over to Macrium Reflect free at this point for my home needs.
That's the way it is since TI2011 I think. I used to use 2011 non my laptop and PC. With 2012 that was no longer possible.

Thanks! I just upgraded to 8 and can't believe acronis wouldnt run without me paying $30 for an upgrade! I had a USB with acronis 2012 so I could image machines but it got corrupt and needed to remake the USB. I owe you.

I didn't install TI2012 to Windows 8 (not sure if it will work). I did try and backup my new Win8 image using the TI2012 boot disk and it didn't work.

I emailed their customer support for an upgrade and denied me for a purchase of 2012 that was less then a year old. They were willing to give me 25% off. Completely unacceptable either make 2012 work with windows 8 or offer everyone an upgrade who has 2012.

I'm moving onto free ware. I am completely unwilling to be frisked by a company like that. Not to mention they were very rude on their email back to me asking compatibility. Not the best way to run a business.

I've been using Macrium more and more and it just works well for me. I bought Acronis True Image Home 2010 and have used it since that time...but I don't think that I will be buying a newer version of it going forward.

Hello All-

I'm running TIH 2011 on a Win7 PC that dual boots with Win8, each OS on a separate internal HDD. Is there any reason I can't use TIH 2011 (on the Win7 OS/HDD) to image the Win8 OS/HDD while it's not booted? Likewise, would I be able to restore the drive from Win7?

Rob
