A story to point out the usefulness of restore points.
I got everything running good & made a restore point.
I had been researching boot options.
I went into the BIOS & enabled the Boot Menu.(Press F-12 when restarting to get Boot Menu)
That worked good.
The option to press F-12 showed up when restarting.
I kept restarting in different boot options until I over did it & got a black screen.
From which I could proceed no further.
So, I restarted & pressed F-12 to get the Boot Menu & chose #6 in the list to boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
The command prompt that appeared was Administrator Command Prompt.
I typed in rstrui.exe & pressed Enter & in the recovery window that appeared chose the latest restore point.
It restored & everything was back to normal.
I needed no .wim files or .iso files or any of the other crazy stuff I see suggested in this forum for restoring functionality to one's computer.
I lost no programs, files, or Windows Updates using this method.
The gist of this is this making of restore points is a very good idea.
Enabling Boot Menu too.
Command Prompt in Safe Mode with rstrui.exe saves the day.
No Hirens Boot CD or any other crap that boggles the mind.
Microsoft should have made using a restore point available at restart as an option, instead of someone having to resort to refreshing or restoring to factory settings.
Well, I figured out how to use a restore point.
It saves a lot of time & aggravation fixing your computer.
