Bill Gates, what was he thinking RANT!!!!!

I agree that Metro should be optional, and they need to bring the start menu back, that's a necessity. First thing I did when I installed Windows 8 was remove Metro and add back the start menu. On tablets, Metro is fine, on Desktops/laptops where you need to be productive, it's a huge hindrance.

Solved External hard drive shell broke, salvaged internal drive

Okay, I found the drive on eBay for $140, I'll buy that and when it comes in and I test it I'll report back. I can't think of a single situation where " hardware encryption" wound be useful to the customer unless we get to set the password, after calling Western Digital multiple times and...

Even if they have that PCB available, how would I decrypt the drive with it? Edit: I just contacted western digital, they don't even sell the parts, every time I call they keep trying to refer me to data recovery companies, I would be willing to buy the same model drive again just to get the...

Solved External hard drive shell broke, salvaged internal drive

I don't know how to solder anything. Are there any places I could take it like Lowes or any online places? Or, would it be possible to connect the drive to the PCB but using a splitter and with a separate cord connect it to the computer? Because when I plug it in to the PCB I hear the drive...

Solved External hard drive shell broke, salvaged internal drive

Okay, so the drive is apparently encrypted and will only be unencrypted if I can get it hooked up back to the original PCB, only problem is the USB connector fell off.. Last night I tried glueing it back on like an idiot, it glued but still won't recognize the HDD connected to it... So it looks...

Solved External hard drive shell broke, salvaged internal drive

I'm using MiniTools, so far it's 7% done (took 2 hours, says 29 hours remaining, not a problem though) but what worries me is it says so far it's only found 21 files... now I had thousands of pictures, hundreds of movies, games, documents, etc.. And after 7% only finding 21 files..

Thanks guys, I tried a different tool with no success, I'll try the ones posted here and report back. I have two 1TB HDD's that I'll be migrating my files over to, and I will then immediately get another 2TB HDD and use a RAID level, I'll never let this happen again.
