System Restore Checkpoint Creation / Restore Problem

    Hi,
I have windows 8 Pro With Media Center installed on my laptop (Vostro 1015 320 GB HDD & 4 GB RAM). I just have the OS, MS office 2K13, foxit reader, KIS 2K14 and Paragon Partition Master installed (which I do not use at all). Since two days ago System Restore Checkpoint Creation / Restore is not working. The error message says that I do not have sufficient privilege for the operation to succeed. Although my machine is working, I need this to work as i have all my personal data on it. A backup is there but can this issue be resolved without a fresh install since volume of data is quite big and important ? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks...

Are you saying your Restore Points are your only form of Backup for all your data?

System Restore Checkpoint Creation / Restore Problem

    Hi
That is not at all. This problem has also cropped up on my PC which I use for remote connections to my clients and doing maintenance work, Also I have a lot of important documents on this. I am a Sys Admin and hence from time to time do need to install new S/W or test out different virtual scenarios on behalf of my client. So if anything happens SysRestore is the fastest way to get back to a working environment again. This PC is running Windows 8 with 16GB RAM, 2TB HDDs (2 nos.) and has INTEL i5 on a genuine INTEL board. The H/W is not an issue and I had not installed S/W or changed config when the problem arose. I am totally stumped as I have not faced this before. External System Backup is there but restoration is time consuming and hence my query. Thanks for replying, gator2013....

This thread has some good info and links (at the bottom) hopefully something here will help you Restore Point - Add "Create Restore Point" to Context Menu in Windows - Windows 7 Help Forums

Also, this may help Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums

Accessing the Built-In Administrator Account might help in your situation per the link provided in the reply above.

Since you are still running W-8 I wonder if your system is in the middle of some sort of forced install of W-8.1? This has caused problems for other W-8 users. Have you been installing Windows Updates on a regular basis? Have you tried any diagnostics like SFC /Scannow to check for file corruption?

In the past System Restore Points failed to work for me.
Now I use Macrium Reflect images on usb drives to restore with.
    Do as you wish.
    Just adding my 2 worth.
