Does Windows 8 have a hibernate file? Is it the same as sleep? Do you have to clean-up the sleep file eventually?

The OS saves all these information in a file called hiberfil.sys file. This hiberfil.sys is actually a hidden file which is stored in the main partition where your OS is installed
