unable to view xp computers in network view on 8.1 pc

Dear all - ok I am a forum virgin so go easy on me. We have a 10 pc'c 6 of which run XP Pro two of which run Win7 and two run Win 8.1. I have set us all up as a workgroup with homegroup disabled on the two win8 pc's. I have set profiles on the win7 and win8 all to have shared file on, discover devices on and in the advanced sharing set up all setting are share file on/password off etc. All is fine except one of the win8 pc's simply will not show any of the other pc's within the workgroup other than the other win8 pc. I have trudged and trudged to see if I can find a solution without success. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

Have you tried setting up a different user profile on the Windows 8 machine with the problem?

Try setting up a standard account on the problem machine then see if can see the other machines. This will tell if you the current user profile is corrupted.

They call it a standard account these days, just follow the directions in the link.

Hi chev65 sorry for delay have been tied up on a project all week have not had the opportunity to try the user account until today. I have created a new user and set them as an administrator. checked that all setting for sharing are as they should and....hey presto...its exactly the same. You can see the other windows 8 pc but none of the others on the network. I am sure that it is just a simple setting that needs changing somewhere but dammed if I can find it!

Have the XP machines been updated to SP3?

There could also be a problem with the user account on this Windows 8 PC, try setting up another user account and see if the other machines show up.

All XP PC's are on SP3. I created a new user account and situation is same. I can view all PC's from my PC which is also a windows 8. The other windows 8 PC that cannot see the XP PC's shows my windows 8 PC and two windows 7 pc but not the XP's. The windows 7 PC's see all PC in workgroup as well.
    Hope that makes sense??

Try making the following registry adjustment on the Windows 8 machine with the problem. This adjustment has worked in the past with Windows 7 machines but I'm not completely sure why it's only required on certain machines.

Solution is really easy just modify one key in registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy
    set the value to: 1

Hi chev65 - have changed setting to 1 - sorry no different. The directory path is slightly different - I assume because windows 7 and I am working on a windows 8? The path I have is the same apart from it says FilterAdministrationToken not LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy?

If you don't have the registry key present then you need to create the key "create or modify 32-bit DWORD: LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy"
