Cant connected to a network drive from my Desktop.

    Hey,

Been having trouble this morning with my network drive in my Home Server. It normally connects fine at startup and it all of a sudden wont work.

I have isolated it to my Desktop as i can connect off of my Laptop fine.

The name of my server is Homeserver(192.168.1.77) and I have shared a folder inside the drive rather than the drive its self. This image shows how I'm trying to connect to the folder.Click image for larger version
And this is the error I'm getting Click image for larger version

    I have tried:
Resetting ip / dns flushing etc.
sfc /scannow (Says everything is fine.)
Windows 8.1: files in folders on network drive not visible

Also tried disabling norton on my desktop but still wont work

I'm running out of ideas. Anyone Please

    Thanks in advance
    Bradley

Since you mentioned Norton it all makes sense now. Disabling Norton all to often won't make a difference, uninstalling it completely using the uninstall tool is the only way. Besides Norton I see no reason for this drive to suddenly become inaccessible.

Would you say to contact their support then? I do have norton installed on my other 2 laptops and they can access it perfectly.

    Cheers

Norton can sometimes create access rules out of the blue. It's hard to say what is the best course of action from my end but if it was me I would uninstall Norton using the uninstall tool on the machine that has the drive attached.

I really can't think of many other reason's why a drive would suddenly become inaccessible, unless something changed access to the main Users folder which is shared out be default.

Maybe try disconnecting the SATA cable on the drive and reconnect, they get loose and just don't connect sometimes.

Besides that I don't see how the access rules for the drive could have changed on their own.

Just tried to access it through network and sharing center and I'm getting this error: Click image for larger version

It still seems they are having trouble seeing each other.

I will try and reconnect it now.

Have you tried rebooting the machines or resetting the router? I doubt Norton had anything to do with your issue. Somehow the network got hosed. I occasionally have problems accessing a share on my network and usually rebooting the machine that has the share fixes the issue.
