Did you install the driver for your wifi adapter?

I have the same problem with an atheros adapter. I installed windows 8 on a toshiba, but it won't connect to wifi.

A separate USB Wifi adapter connects but the atheros doesn't... It's probably the drivers, although I haven't really stressed over it since I don't use it much...

Good luck, try to update the drivers in computer 'Manage'

There are few things you could try, uninstall any security software, resident Windows Defender is more than enough, you could try resetting IE.

You could try installing the Broadcom Windows 7 driver in compatibility mode for Windows 7.
    Download Broadcom AW1397 WLAN 5.30.21.0, A02 for Alienware Laptop M17x , ipdrivers

This link shows you how to install in Windows 7 mode.
