DCOM errors when upgrading to Windows 8.1

No start8 here, and I get that error. I hereby solemnly proclaim start8 innocent of this crime against Immersive Shell..

    Solved 8.1 Successes?

Altghough the upgrade went smooth (in take two :D), looking around (in the Event Viewer, the Performance Monitor) I see that the installation is chock-full of log and counters errors and misconfigurations. They (and probably some other unseen things) don't show up in the day-to-day operation of...

    Solved 8.1 Successes?

The first attempt ended in failure because the system couldn't connect to the internet, so problems arose in signing up and accepting terms, I don't know for sure, but when the error flashed on the screen there was no back button, just a roll-back. The second attempt went smoothly, no...

PPPoE connections on W8.1 - would a tutorial be worth it?

This batch file unfortunately must include one's PPP username and password in plain text. I can't promise I'll be making a tutorial (in fact I'm pleading with someone else to do all the procedural writing), but as you say you are working towards a solution - do you need help with something...

DCOM errors when upgrading to Windows 8.1

The first event is linked to the Immersive Shell, i.e. the ''Modern'' start screen. I see that myself, and I haven't found a cause yet. I'll keep looking.

PPPoE connections on W8.1 - would a tutorial be worth it?

Compare Internet Options, the Connections tab on Windows 7 and 8, and Windows 8.1 (or on IE 10 and IE 11 respectively). Do you see a difference? What you see is another functionality being ripped out of Windows for no apparent logical reason - this time it is something so basic that it will...

Goodbye Windows 8, hello Windows 8.1

They also stripped away the ''Dial my default connection'' option, and the option of making a(ny) connection default too. They left the GUI for that in Internet Options intact though, it just doesn't work. At all. As my Windows 8 connects to the net in this fashion precisely, over WiFi and...

How to Correctly Install Windows 8.1 Preview

Not all of it. The Windows\Performance folder is still there, and in it Winsat.exe and the Datastore folder. With no apparent way to make it run. And it doesn't do so automatically.

Curious event in Event Viewer concerning 'with WMC'

Well, i should probably update this thread. I contacted Microsoft support, which told me that they've never seen this kind of situation before, one by all accounts activated Windows 8 throwing this kind of errors. They surmised that Windows 8 Pro wasn't really activated on their side when I...

Will 90 percent of users always hate Windows 8?

Oh, don't thank me, it's in the tutorials here. That setup application will also be very kind and will offer to open the Windows ISO burner and burn the disc right away, if you so choose.

Will 90 percent of users always hate Windows 8?

Well, there is, kind of. They keep the link hidden well, for completely unknown reasons. link The key you own will give you the version you are entitled to, and of course, you also have to be careful, it will choose between x86 and x86-64 based on the computer you run it on...

Windows Blue upgrade would be offered for free for current

Count me in among the Continuum fans. Love that show, it's intelligent, easy to follow, nice. Luckily for us fans of the C, it is a Showcase production primarily for the Canadian market, and it was well received there and renewed on the basis of that. It doesn't depend on the syfy knee-jerkers.

Windows 8 swells to 2.7% of OS market

What goes on here is unmoderated trolling and flamebaiting. Read the posts like the one you quoted with this in mind.
