Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but I'm still not having any luck. I've scowled through every possible setting to make sure both sleep and hibernate are both disabled. There's definitely no software for the ssd, and "There are no active wake timers in the system." I really am stumped!?
I did have it set here also, just not in the previous screen shot. I've just updated my bios to the most recent and still the problem persists :/ any other ideas? I'm on a Asus k53e with a 250gb samsung SSD. and 4 gb of ram, if that's any use to anyone..

Thanks for the reply, my laptop is an ASUS. I did stumble across that about the sony laptops. (something about the fans being obstructed by the lid). My fan isnt obstructed by the lid so hopefully this isn't the problem. I didn't have any issues with windows 7, so i can only assume it's a bug...
Hey hey, so the problem is i want to leave my laptop running when doing renders that take hours on end. I've disabled the sleep mode in every way that I know how to (see screen shots). When the lid is open it doesn't go to sleep, but when it's closed after about minutes it goes into sleep mode...
