Windows 8.1 won't boot after 1 week shutdown.

This morning I shut down and unplugged the computer and disconnected the disk that has Windows 7 on it so the only available OS was Windows 8. I then booted into the Recovery module to attempt a "Refresh" of Windows 8. As before, I got an error message stating that the drive was "Locked", and...

Windows 8.1 won't boot after 1 week shutdown.

Thanks! Yes, I ran: chkdsk /f /x ...it found "no problems" Movere si nequeo caelis, ego resuscitabo inferno (If I cannot move Heaven, I will try to raise Hell...)

Windows 8.1 won't boot after 1 week shutdown.

Well, I cannot get into Windows 8.1 at all, as I mentioned originally the only OS that will load now is Windows 7. However, I did finally dig up a Windows 8 Bootable Recovery USB flash drive that I must have made after I originally installed W8 (most likely thanks to joining this forum) and I...

Windows 8.1 won't boot after 1 week shutdown.

Unfortunately I cannot boot into 8.1 at all. The only OS from my dual boot setup that works is Win7. I originally had the default boot OS set as 8, but when I was not able to get there and I finally did get into 7, I changed that default OS to Win7.

Windows 8.1 won't boot after 1 week shutdown.

I recently returned home after a 10 day trip and when I turned my computer back on it would not boot/open at all.I have a dual-boot setup running Win8.1 and Win7 Pro. The default OS is Win8.1, and -- as a matter of fact -- I probably haven't even opened Win7 for almost a year. Before I left all...

Solved System Image Recovery can't find Image on USB Drive

OK, I went to disk management it showed, so I assigned the first possible letter available to the "unnamed" disk and it shows up fine in "My Computer" now as Disk "L". Before I mark this "solved", though, I'd like to ask how much changing and swapping around of disk letters I can do (without...

Solved System Image Recovery can't find Image on USB Drive

Thanks, Shawn I tried setting my Seagate USB drive as the first boot device and that didn't work. It's a moot point anyway because I've gone ahead and reset Windows 8 and am now re-installing programs. I have a different problem now, though: When I boot into Windows7 and open "My Computer" it...

Solved System Image Recovery can't find Image on USB Drive

I've been dual-booting Windows 8 Pro and Windows 7 Ultimate, but a while back my Windows 8 kind of went "South" and wouldn't boot at all (I got an error message that a device was "not attached"). I have a recent system image on an external USB hard drive, but when I boot to "system recovery"...

    Windows 8 and Apple iphones

Yes, I have to admit that iTunes is right up there with RealPlayer and Adobe Reader as obnoxiously intrusive and presumptuous software goes...

    Windows 8 and Apple iphones

Well, I'm sure I could get it to "work" were I to install iTunes...I'm just curious as to which part of Windows 8 is not yet functioning like Windows 7 does (I just booted into Windows 7 and had no trouble copying pictures from my iPhone to the desktop using file manager, not iTunes...:))

    Windows 8 and Apple iphones

OK, occasionally Microsoft and Apple have been known to have their, um..."differences?..." but Windows 7 did manage to communicate with my iPhone 4S quite well. I am now trying a pretty simple task in Windows 8, copying a jpeg from the "camera roll" on my iPhone to a W8 desktop folder. All...

    Solved Attempting my first backup...

So if the position of drives in "Disk Management" corrosponds to certain parts of the physical disk itself, would it be possible to temporarily "store" the data than is now in partition "D" on the external drive where I will be eventually putting the system image (if I'm ever successful:()...

    Solved Attempting my first backup...

I finally took a pretty close look at all the data I put on that partition and nothing matches the criteria you mentioned... any other ideas? Philip
