In order to force an older driver, it is best to boot into to safe mode, uninstall the current driver, reboot back into safe mode and install the old driver.

Hey! I have to remember how to do this in Windows 7! - it is basically the same though.

Start, Search, type msconfig, go to the boot tab, and check the safe boot box and minimal. Apply, OK, Restart

When rebooted in safe mode minimal services, Start, Control panel (small icons), device manager, display adapter - Select your Intel HD adapter, Properties, Driver.

You then have a choice - uninstall is what I suggested.

then reboot and I think msconfig will still take you back to safe mode where you run the intel video installer - hopefully it will run ok. Open msconfig again and unselect the safe boot, and restart, and your new (old) driver should be running - you may need to check screen resolution on the desktop and the Intel graphics manager properties dialogs.

If you then still have problems finding your correct screen resolution don't give up there are yet more options.

First manually uninstall the driver from device manager and then reinstall the other one (after reboot).
This should work also. Just make sure to delete driver files, and reboot.

    That's it.

Triple Boot: Windows Xp, Windows 7 and Windows Release Preview, Virtual Machine ( Windows 8 )

Sorry for the late reply.. My Internet Connection was down for a few days..

I tried both the methods.. But none of the methods work for me.. I always get the highest resolution as 1152x864. I don't remember Installing any driver update for my driver for any other Intel products.. I have set my Windows' Update Option to Always ask to install update or not. So i get notified to get an update installed on my computer.. I got this computer formatted a few months ago and then some weeks ago this problem happened.. Will re-installing Windows work? That is a hard method for me Because many members in my family uses this computer for quite a lot of reasons.. So have my User accounts and other files in my Local Disk C Drive. So Re- Formatting will cause a lot of problem to me.. One of the main problem is that now, as the host's resolution is decreased, i cannot run my Virtual Machine with a higher resolution to enable Snap and other features that require the minimum resolution as 1366x768. So, solving this problem will solve quite a lot of problem that i face now.. Would be really grateful if I get some help..

    Thank You

Good idea. The format/reinstall is always a good idea, but first make sure it's worth it (you said it's difficult because everyone is using that pc).

Try booting with Ubuntu (not installing, only live CD or USB) and see if 1366x768 is supported on the desktop. If the resolution exists in Ubuntu (intel graphics are included on CD), it should exist in a fresh Windows also (after installing the intel drivers).

After the test above you can just install a fresh Windows but be careful not to mess things up. Are you really using a triple boot?

Can you use VBox in Win XP then?

So there is something wrong with Win7 but we don't know what (virus? don't know, and you've already tested newer graphics drivers with no result) and how to fix it. Then format is the only option. First backup all the data you have on Win7 of course.

I usually try to fix a problem I encounter. But when I don't have any idea what's wrong or if it's even fixable, I format the partition and reinstall.

Sorry. Nothing more to say here. I've already gave all the tips I had in the matter. But there has to be some settings that override the max resolution somewere. For nVidia cards you can delete old settings when reinstalling a new driver but I'm not sure for intel.

    Good luck
