An equivalent PC is about the same price as a MacBook Pro. My 3.5lb Dell, core i5, e6430u ultrabook, with 8gb of ram, with a 256gb SSD, with Intel Hd4000 graphics running 1600x900, with HDMI output, with USB3 ports, card reader, and Windows 8 pro was actually a few bucks more expensive than my 3.5lb, core i5 MacBook pro, with 8gb of ram, and 256gb SSD, with Intel hd5000 graphics with 2560x1600, with USB3 ports, HDMI, 2 lightening 2 ports, and a card reader.
Price aside, they are very different. One is not necessarily better than the other. I like and use them both.
My rMBP is my first ever Apple computer. I've had it now about 6 weeks. Quite happy with it. It's got its pros and cons. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. And I won't give up Windows anytime soon. But completely satisfied with my purchase. It's been a great learning experience and nice to learn a different way to do things that I have been doing in Windows and Linux for many years.
