I like Win8 RP over Win7 because it is so much better under the hood. I find that it boots faster, multitasks better, and uses less resources. There are a LOT more ways of rescuing a broken running WIN8 op sys (which I am fighting on Win7 with my nephew right now). As the the user facing screen trapping such as Metro and "squared off windows", I DON'T CARE. I never liked the start button in Win7 and had ignored it for years. I don't have much use for Metro yet and mostly ignore it (except for the weather app which is great). Yet, I am merrily running along even with a "beta" version of the program!
So many people as getting hung up on the "look and feel" on Win8 which baffles me. I have tried Apple's OS and it looks damn pretty and feels snappy but is so limited and unintuitive (like Metro and charms bar, heh). If "look and feel" were all that counted Apple's OS would be the dominant player.
Win8, even in BETA, works great under the hood. The rest I can live with.

Windows 8 IS great under the hood and that's good enough!

I want a REALLY GREAT desktop OS UI to go with it. I got a so-so tablet UI instead

I too have a really great weather app. It's a gadget that takes up about 1/100th of my 24in monitor's screen space and displays tons MORE information than the metro app. It is probably 10 times better in every way as are all my non metro apps on the desktop. :/

Give me Win 8 but get that useless invasive, in-your-face Metro gui out of there. (Charms bar is not so charming either)

I would actually start experimenting with third party tools for removing it but I really don't want to get my hopes up only to have MS make good on their promise to make getting rid of metro "impossible" on release.

That is so ludicrous it hardly warrants a response!

What are you multi-tasking between? A game of solitaire and a game of noughts & crosses!

To be fair you can multitask quit well in Windows 8, using your normal desktop apps. I can open Outlook on one monitor, IE on my other while playing some tunes in MP just like I did in Windows 7. Its only when you try that with Metro apps that you hit a brick wall. I have two 1280x1024 LCD displays but can only ever have "one" Metro app open on screen. Epic fail for a company that has been around as long as Microsoft, and that makes its bread and butter from its operating system sales.

I am liking it more the more I use it. Giving this one a good test run, the CP I removed after a week but I am still here (in W8)

I am giving my honest opinion of what I think of Win8 RP and its UI. If you you hate Win8, fine, but please avoid the personal attacks. This site deserves better.

It's a joke, man, it's only a joke. I just couldn't let that one go.

Windows 8 Release preview. in General Support
I am playing with Win 8 in Virtualbox inside Ubuntu. Win 7 works fine in VB and boots in about 30 seconds. Win 8 is taking around 10 minutes. So far the little bit I have been able to use 8 hasn't excited me much. The first screen has me looking for the desktop and start button, but I'll give...
For those who have already tried it, please feel free to comment in this thread the changes you have found compared to Consumer Preview. Thank you.
