    Chinese!

    First, the pleasantries:
    Howdy, all.

    Now, the less-pleasant bits....
I've been trying Win8 for a few weeks and am just starting to get the hang of things.
Then all of a sudden, yesterday, I start seeing Chinese on the app icons.
Being the sly and resourceful fella that I am....I googled it.
That lead me to a forum post, somewhere, of someone else having the same issue. The recommendation to that similarly afflicted poor soul, was that they should "refresh" their system and that doing so would fix the Chinese without harming any programs files or settings.

By-golly...I needed me some of that cure-all. So I went and done it.

    Guess what....

Wiped my system. Me not happy camper. grr ugh!

So Ive spent the past day trying to rebuild everything.

Oh, and the most lovely part of all.....now I got Chinese EVERYWHERE. Its on the app icons, its in Internet explorer websites, its in firefox websites.

Yes, Ive checked my language setting...english. But the displays are chinese.

Any helpful hints? (other than not to be an idiot by trying to be an early-adapter...at my obviously insufficient skill-level)

    Thanks for your help.

    V

You may have already seen or tried this but I'll point you to it anyway.

    I did not see that.

But now I have seen it.

    And I did it.

    And I rebooted.

AND NOW I CAN SEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! (uhh...in English)

Thank you for sharing the solution to hours of aggravation.

So.....have any helpful hints on how I can reinstall Expression Suite now that I apparently have a corrupted key store?

How about suggestions on an expedient way to shut-down a Win8 system?

The penalty for knowing so much....is developing a following of novices like me hoping you continue to drop crumbs of wisdom.

    Thanks again.

If you're referring to the license store there is a fix that may work - FIX : Product key is not accepted when you install or activate ...

Apart from pulling the power cord

    Here's some ideas:
Shutdown Windows 8 From System Tray With NPowerTray
Trick: Create Shutdown or Restart buttons on your desktop or taskbar

    You call that a joke???

    I call it reality.

Seriously, that's how I got here....translated from Chinese.

Honest...it wasn't fun. but now its fixed. (Happy Dance)

I'll try the other helpful hints and see if I can get those resolved too.

Then I'll have to find something else to snivel about. LOL

    Thanks all.

Ok, now this is just getting f-ing wierd.
    I spoke too soon.
Calico's guidance (above) did, indeed, resolve my Chinese app icons....thank you again.
However, I am still experiencing problems with several (but not all) websites displaying in chinese.
This is true in IE9 as well as in Firefox11...but doesn't happen in Safari.
I rechecked my language settings per Calico's reply. Not only did I insure that English is my top preference...but ALL other languages have been REMOVED.
Any additional hints would be greatly appreciated.
(Dont say "just use Safari" hahahahaha)

Just to be clear. When you say "websites displaying in chinese" you mean the actual site content as opposed to the browser interface?
