Replacing Win8 - won't boot from CD

Whelp, I still can't get Windows 8 to work, as I still don't have the disc. Secure boot is disabled. There is no legacy boot/os option. I managed to get Ubuntu 12.10 to show up in the boot menu, selected install, screen went black. Rebooted, selected the livecd option, went black.

So far, I'm super impressed with UEFI and Windows 8... :/
What are the options in CSM?

    Check this Acer video.

    Hi there

Right --lets go back to basics -- the first problem is to get the machine to be able to boot from a CD AND START A GUI / Command line.

So what I suggest is this -- assuming you've disabled the SECURE BOOT (note that's not the same as UEFI).
    1) Create a bootable copy of Partition Wizard -- download from here : supports UEFI boot.

Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

    2) Now see if it boots from the CD -- I'm not asking you to do anything other than BOOT the program -- if it Boots OK then we know your computer will eventually be able to boot a Linux / Windows OS

    3) Report back on the success or otherwise of this operation so we can proceed to the next step.

(I'm an old fashioned Engineer so I try and break a problem down and solve it in stages -- from what I've been reading is that whatever OS is on the CD it won't boot and start properly -- so I've suggested a small program which fully supports all these weird BIOS'es to see if IT boots OK).

Don't RUN the program --just see if the CD boots and you can see the GUI -- then post back to this thread to state whether it worked or not.

    Cheers

Can't you get a Windows 8 disk from the OEM? They usually send those to you upon request.

Microsoft has this for Windows 7 - You can get an ISO image and burn it with this tool, do they have it for Windows 8 yet?

The lack of an actual install disk is a HUGE problem for Windows 8 consumers- It's a verified necessity for major repair.

Yes, and Windows 7 had a whole system in their store to download an iso image and burn it onto a bootable thumb drive. Not so for windows 8, yet. This is a sorely needed option!
