    Conspiracy theorists abound, it seems.

At any rate, what makes you think 8 doesn't meet the needs of the Desktop PC? Examples?

A start screen that completely takes you away from the desktop.

For two seconds. Takes the same amount of time to choose something in the Start Menu.

Depends..if you get distracted by a tile, and then launch a metro app, which goes full screen, you might be there far longer than 2 seconds.

Better believe businesses don't want their employees distracted like this.

I do see your point there. If there were a way to prevent employees from installing random apps from the Store, that may help. Anyhow, it's clear that this isn't a release that's geared toward businesses. Many businesses haven't even upgraded from XP yet. Too high of a cost. It's no surprise that many aren't upgrading to 8 and likely never will.

    Dovechick:

Referring to the thread title. They do. But, as you can see, even from this non specific thread, the views are so mixed, that, perhaps, Microsoft have the impression that it is merely a matter of becoming accustomed, in order to successfully use Windows 8. But, IMO, call me old fashioned also! Your set up is a perfect recipient for Windows 8. You have the best of both worlds. Windows 8 is not dedicated to touch screens/tablets. It is a dual purpose OS and, with the help of (so many!) third party start menus, you can either choose to use the "modern" screen, or, for your tablets, the touch screen (with or without the touch - your choice). There are many complaints, that when the OS starts, it is dominated by the new modern desktop. What else could Microsoft do? If they are moving forward into a new era, dominated by more portable and handheld computers. They have still left the full functionality of the legacy desktop, for those who prefer it. Should they have chosen that desktop as a priority, with the Modern as an alternative, the internet forums would have been similarly filled with complaints from the tablet owners.

But, again referring back to the thread title. I presume you have a live id? You can always visit the TechNet forums

    Windows 8 IT Pro Category

and post there. You will get answers, often live from Microsoft employees, regarding your queries. Possibly these answers will not differ greatly from what you can read here!

Perhaps you had better find out what a conspiracy is before making irrelevant insulting posts.

How is this any different from the start menu being forced on everyone?

That's why the IT staff at said business would be uninstalling said apps, or at least keeping relevant or other apps.

Also, by that line of thought, the internet should be disabled at said business because it IS a huge waste of time.
