    Windows 8.1

just downloaded your driver and what you need to do is:

1- Remove the old driver "500MB". Reboot.
2- unzip the new driver "176MB".
    3- Open "Bluetooth_Suite.exe" with 7Zip.
    4- Extract "win764.exe".
    5- Install "win764.exe".
6- Run and import "BTRegistry.reg" from the zip file.
    7- Reboot.

It's a good idea to update the BIOS too since you have some updates there.

If it didn't work, you'll need to get the files from "win764.exe" and install everything completely manually.

    Good luck

What kind of phone is it, Apple or Windows?

Is the Bluetooth Personal Area Network set up in Network and Sharing Center?

I have a Z87 board, but the iPhone doesn't do much with it. I suppose I could try to set up a Bluetooth Network with another device so see if I could send files. The Bluetooth speaker does work fine.

    Its a Samsung S3

I can't even make my PC discoverable now with following the earlier instructions it just crashed the explorer window thats open and makes it unresponsive

All drivers & bios updates are already installed... But if you go to Asus support and put in my board you'll see they have no drivers etc available for Bluetooth for windows 8.1 x86 / x64

I see your board does not have the drivers, which normally means the ones in Windows 8.1 are you best choice. My Z87 board does have Bluetooth drivers for 8-8.1...so maybe there is some reason Asus is not publishing the ones for your board.

I did notice there is a Bios update. You might check to see if it mentions the Bluetooth situation.

If it was me, I would probably disable the Bluetooth in the bios and then uninstall the devices and all drivers from device manager. If you feel you have some reason not to do this, then please don't.

Then re-enable the Bluetooth and and see if Windows will load the appropriate drivers. Then go and set up the Bluetooth Network adapter in the Network and Sharing center.

I've checked the bios and i can't touch anything regarding the bluetooth in there... As for bios updates i have the latest one installed already but an older chipset driver suite as the newest threw some additional device manager errors into the mix
