Maybe the Advanced Search isn't working properly but I can't find mention of anyone actually stating that they successfully got Windows Mail up and running in Windows 8 Release Preview. It's much the same method as with Windows 7 and, as I have no wish to use the Mail app as designed in Windows 8, was looking for the desktop-accessible method other than Outlook, so went searching online and came across this video: Install Windows Mail on Windows 8. - YouTube
I then followed the Windows 7 tutorial to enable the Windows Calendar link in Windows Mail and it all now works, except for one small thing, WM doesn't appear in default programs and I can't figure out how to wangle that.
Forgive me if I've missed something already published on these forums, but I failed to find it.
I'm beginning to feel less antagonistic towards Windows 8 now, except I still don't like the Metro-only choice for installing device drivers as I want some control over whether or not passkeys are used (as in BT keyboard for instance). But that's a whole other story.
Edit: Have managed to make WM the default after an extensive reading of this thread but read the whole thing as there are two registry fixes need and one is amended twice (warning - it's a long thread so read all posts): Solved Can't Make Windows Mail Default - Windows 7 Forums
