Windows degrades Desktop Background images

Converting all my HQ wallpapers dir to PNG with Image Convert Download - Softpedia worked fine! Now Win 8.1 always uses high quality backdrops also choosing slideshow option...
Very stupid choice from MS.

It may have to do with the option of fill screen stretch or center image you get when you set wallpaper images.
