Windows Defender 0x800106ba error

I am having the same problem when I attempt a Quick Scan and for the first time Full Scan. The error messages and warning boxes are the same as the ones previously posted.

Hi Guys
I have the same problem with the virus definition 1.145.1483.0 but this morning with the latest virus definition 1.145.1490.0 it's all ok!!
Please download the last update in the Microsoft site:

Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center

Credits to yeppe. The update must be downloaded and installed, this DOES work.

Thank you very much. I'm just wondering if Windows Defender will have trouble with updating automatically in the future because I've manually updated the defintions instead of using Windows Update?

(Sorry for English)

This forum is awesome!

Updated from website and the Quick Scan worked. I have not done Full Scan yet but I'm thrilled!!!!

Should I do Full Scan weekly or monthly?

I am set to automatic (I checked SERVICES). Can I still run manually? I believe Defender allows us to manually run Quick and Full Scans as needed.

The 1.145.1483.0 seemed to be a faulty definition file. It even prevents Windows Defender from updating to 1.145.1490.0. Thats why the update has to be downloaded via Get the latest definitions - Microsoft Malware Protection Center and installed manually. I would expect Microsoft to fix this soon, at least coming thuesday on the regular update day.
@jonasty123dm a manual update does not break the automatic update function in windows defender or windows update.

@DesertFrank The Windows Defender Service (WinDefend) MUST be set to Automatic. Windows Defender has a schedule to run a quick scan, the schedule can be found in the taskscheduler under Microsoft Antimalware. You can always start a quick or full scan via the Windows Defender interface (Control Panel - Windows Defender). I use a startup entry to launch an update and a make quick scan:
START "Windows Defender update and Quickscan" /B /ABOVENORMAL "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe" "-UpdateAndQuickScan"

The update is now on the servers of the windows updater :D

I'm glad to have found this thread. I started having this problem yesterday and thought I had a virus. Until Microsoft fixes this, I will use the free online Virus Scans that are available from other companies.

I'd manually updated the definitions given the link above, and confirmed that they fixed the problem.

Then I just clicked on update to verify that everything still worked as before, and it has downloaded and installed an even newer 1.145.1493.0 version.
