Windows 9

The rumor mill as now posted on several sites that Windows 9 is now going to be coming out in November 2014.

Don't kill the messenger. . .please. . .

It is funny how I started this thread to be about the up and coming Win 9 in 2014, and now it has turned into "you either love win 8, or totally hate win 8."

I was hoping for some thoughtful and insightful ideas as to what we just might see in Win 9 in two years time. . .silly me. . .:roflmao:

What did you expect?

If you love W8, you want more W8 stuff for W9.

If you hate W8, you want less W8 stuff for W9.

Maybe this would work for most people.
Release 2 versions:
  • Windows 9 - No Desktop GUI
  • Windows 9 - No Tablet GUI

You can only discuss what you know, everything else is wishful thinking, so wondering what Windows 9 will be like is just wishful thinking. A lot of people are wishing it were not like Windows 8, but more like Windows 7. Others appear to be wishing it were more of the same, but improved, whatever that means.

I'm afraid you won't be totally able to get around the likes and dislikes of Win 8 when going to talk about what comes next unfortunately just like people who hated Aero wonder what would be seen in 7 that no longer saw the Classic theme style and format. Now people will wonder about just what trend MS will take since many simply do not want one thing or the other no matter which crowd you talk to. I guess you simply got caught in the middle!

And in Apple News... here is a good example of the problem they're going to be facing with their profit margins evaporating.

Meet the tiny, Florida-based phone maker that thinks it can beat Samsung | The Verge

When the op sys can be gotten for free(Android), and the hardware costs about the same for all companies... you get clones. Clones lead to massive competition, and that leads to very small profit margins. It'll be the exact same thing with tablets. Apple will still be able to sell lots of both, but only if they're willing to compete on price at the cost of the profit margin.. something the company has never been able to do.

Honestly? I do kind of think Microsoft is doing too much with Windows 8.

I have to say Windows 8 is (mostly) great on tablets and pretty great on laptops, but in reality it's pointless on desktops. especially when you have more than one monitor.

The future of Windows really doesn't work on destops. Unless it's those star-trek like touchscreen systems

Honestly it's working fine for me with two monitors, and I do not think that the future of PCs and Windows is so limited.

I suspect that it is the same old problem that is encountered with new Windows releases:
  • MS tinkering with the code
  • Sloppy driver coding by hardware vendors

What I am hoping MS rethinks about and finally realizes they have to do in order to see the next success like 7 brought in would further desktop development on the surface not just the core elements and stripping away existing features. Granted they might even come up with an actual working replacement for Aero when they get back to focusing on the desktop platform in everything.

Exactly, they're simple tile icons with push notifications. Some apps don't require a good tile for being there, some of the Desktop apps I have pinned to Start I'd rather have smaller as they don't need to be a good size tile.

I always use two monitors and have never had a problem with w8 and the use of both monitors.

According to the initial information on 8 the Control Panel>Display optioons were improved for dual monitors in 8. But I still had to go with an 8 compatible version of DisplayFusion or UltraMon in order to get the smart bar to work. Since I paid the full price for both the 8 update came through being the latest 8 compatible where I could then run with UltraMon and not need to auto load DisplayFusion at the same time just to see a smart bar on the secondary.

Something like this however is what you would expect to be seeing with any newer desktop version to start with. With 7 you could now run desktop gadgets on the desktop instead of the need for the side bar brought in with Vista showing another next version newer step forward. Hopefully Windows 9 will not only bring in some actual improvements but clean things up entirely for advancing any touchscreen capable gui that is actually designed for the desktop platform. That and further development on the MinWin without stripping away at the features again.

Hi Night Hawk,

I used DisplayFusion for quite few years until about four months ago when I made the switch to UltraMon (much better then DisplayFusion). Also using three monitors (one is attached via USB) UltraMon just seems a little faster. UltraMon along with Stardock's ModernMix I am able to have opened several Modern Apps at one time, thus giving Win 8 a new lift as to usability.

That's great for you then! I knew about UltraMon long before taking a look at DisplayFusion when seeing that back in the XP days. But it wasn't until 7 came along I finally went on a dual display setup for the then brand new build since everything was planned out ahead of time to allow expansion.

When seeing the report about ModernMix I said to myself right off this will be making life a lot easier for running 8! Not everyone will even know about the 3rd party subs like Classic Shell while this can contend with Metro regardless! I'm sure a few people are going to glad to know you can open several things at once without a problem!

What I think they perhaps are preparing for Windows 9 is to do the GUI change for what device you are using, like the way Ubuntu is doing now. You run the full OS on your phone, you dock it in the tablet and you change from phone GUI to tablet GUI, if you hook up mouse and keyboard you get the normal desktop GUI
