Windows 8 in day to day use

RPenabled must be set to 1 for the ribbon to work, theres a one to one correlation. As for that explorer restart, i get a one second flicker. Not sure why but have a feeling the ui selection goes on right upto that time because if i set my logon batch to run too quickly i end up with metro.

I've actually set 8 as my default over 7.....

It's such an interesting system, two interfaces in one and come together to hybridize. I think it works fine with keyboard and mouse. I got my wish with scrolling through the Start Screen and not just tapping on page down or page up keys.

As since it's an alpha build, of course there is some weirdness with it. My stickler is the lack of hot-swapping hard drives. I can't get a hard drive plugged in without shutting down, plugging the drive in, boot up and restart so the system sees the hardware change. That is annoying....

Also, the placement of some popup Metro boxes are just queer. The time part of the Charms bar, what?! It's slightly over the Taskbar, it's over the nav bar in Immersive IE10, it's just awkward! Anyways....

While i find the new GUI interesting to say the least I do think that they have alot more left to do to make it user friendly as i am only just starting to figure the headache out but what can we expect from an Alpha build? I'm sure the end result will be loved by all.

I was thinking about some of the leaked screenshots of Server 8, and I realized since Windows 8 is now in the Alpha stage, I'm going to bet 10 cents that by beta time, Windows Explorer will have the same type of Metro treatment. I for one kind of like how in the Metro file navigation, all your pictures, documents, and videos all are fit into one square regardless if it is that aspect ratio or not. It'd be cool to see all my pictures that way in Explorer, a awesome ribbon-like stream...

I fell in love with Windows 8 and use it more then Windows 7. At first I hate Windows 8 and after using it and now I love it. So I use it everyday and like 70% of the time.

I actually find I can't really go back to Windows 7... Sure, I have to use it for the programs that don't work on 8, but... I just... There's something about Windows 8 that keeps me coming back to it. I use it all day err' day.

Let's just hope Microsoft accommodate for that this time, and give us a customizable AI. Can you imagine a huge database of skins and tweaks, supported by Microsoft? That'd be incredible.

I've been praying for out of the box serious customization for a long time now.

Changing the odd colour, icon or font just doesn't cut it any more.

Indeed, and hopefully if they're aiming towards the average user, they might consider making it easier for us, rather than forcing us to use hacks and mods and all that.
If they want every day use, they need to work for it.
