Windows 8 ekes out 3.2 percent of desktop OS market

Microsoft's latest OS is gaining ground but is still in fourth place behind Vista, according to Web tracker Net Applications.

Windows 8 is slowly carving out a slightly larger slice of the OS market.

The latest flavor of Windows captured 3.17 percent of all desktop OS traffic tracked by Net Applications in March. That was a small gain from the 2.67 percent share in February.

Since its official debut last October, Windows 8 has very gradually risen up the ranks, at least in Net Applications' Web traffic reports.

I've used remastersys to remaster Ubuntu in the past.
Now did that for LMDE 2012 and there were some issues but the image worked!

I mostly use this as a live USB.

I don't have UEFI support on this one (LMDE dosen't have it for now, neither SecureBoot) so my latest laptop cannot use it since I'm tired switching options in the BIOS all the time.

More tricky, at least for me, is doing a Knoppix remastered image. But luckily I followed all steps well and I was surprised.

Custom Live DVD

I have got all 3 atm.

Given your good work with W7, I think you'll succeed.

I wanted to add a couple of programs to the DVD:

• GParted (I couldn't find a GUI HDD manager in the default Mint install)
• Wireshark

I was able to create a Live Linux Mint MATE DVD of my physical install.

I couldn't figure out how to make a generic Live DVD though (i.e. I have to use my user name and password to run it).

BTW, how does the autosave work on this forum (i.e. how do you retrieve the saved copy)?
The tab crashed when I tried to add the URL and I had to start again.
