Windows 8 Boots to Desktop - Not Start Screen

Yes I know its logitech software, but if its installing an updated driver, then the new driver might be fixing the problem.

Could be. I checked Logitech's site and my keyboard is so old that there is no Windows 8 compatible software available.

I don't know if your keyboard has anything to do with your issue, but you could try a non logitech keyboard if you have one handy.

This is rather ironic. Most people complain about booting to the new Start page and want to boot the the Desktop. I would rather boot the new Start page but my new Asus Windows 8 computer boots to the start page initially but after about three seconds automatically goes to the desktop. Any ideas on what's going on?

Thanks,

PerryR

Maybe ASUS uses this to switch to the desktop.

Hi folks I've had the same problem with the same amount of lead time before the screen goes from the Start Screen to the Desktop "App". I had originaly thought it was a registry hang from one of the various "Start-Menu" replacement programs I was testing but ultimatly found out that it was a program loading up as a process, that being a process of Zonealarm. Once I deactivated it as a startup process, the Start Screen with Tiles remained. I have noticed that when some programs are launched, be it a windows native program or second party program, that windows 8 launches them from within the Desktop "App", which is why the Desktop opens after the Zonealarm program begins a few minutes after the start screen loads. Hope this helps some.

Hi all, I've not installed any of the start menu replacements as thought I'd try to get used to using the start screen (don't use any of the apps though) but since installing the latest version of displayfusion (I run 3 x 27" monitors) the start screen is replaced by my desktop after 3 or 4 seconds. Haven't looked at trying to disable this feature(?) as all my program shortcuts etc. are on the desktop, since this has been occurring must admit that I haven't even bothered with the start screen.

Why would you install DisplayFusion? Windows 8 already has the majority of DF's features. The ones it lacks that I can think of are multiple screen savers (not a huge feature IMO) and icon profiles, which you can get with other software that won't conflict with 8.

I run display fusion on my win7 multiscreen rig and as I have previously paid for it I thought i'd try out the latest win8 compatible version on the min8 pc.
It doesn't conflict with Win8 so not sure where you are coming from on that one? has a few features that I like and use and as I said I've paid for it so why not use it.
Quite happy that it switches to the desktop instead of staying on the start screen, I don't use any of the metro apps and only very occasionally use the charms bar.
I'm quite happy with the way MY computer is working thank you.
