Windows 8 boot from usb

Hi Guys,

i hope you can help me.

I have an ASUS Zenbook UX32VD for 13 days now.
Yesterday i cant boot (win8 pre-installed).

I dont want to send it to germany to fix it.

In the BIOS (VBIOS: 2137.I14UX3.006 ; Version 212) I can see the harddisk and the memory, so I think just Windows crashed in any way.
I tried to re-install a Win7 from USB, BUT its not possible with USB 3.0 - so, its not possible to install from bootable USB-Stick.
My attempt to do that from an SD-Card failed - it is shown on start-up options when i push Esc while loading, but it has no affect, it just tries to start from hdd.

My HDD is a hybrid one. So it has 24 GB SSD and 500 HDD

I cant boot from external ROM-Drive because its said that the ROM Driver is missing. ?!?! WTF

Plz community - what can I do now?

Jimbo and others you lost me here.

In my opinion one CANNOT install Windows on a USB stick.

Sure you can boot from a USB stick, you can boot from USB and install Windows, but not have Windows working on a USB stick or drive.

That was what i ment to say.

If i am wrong correct me please.

thanks

Jeff

Of course you can install Windows on a USB stick. All you need is a seperate product key. See here: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5349-windows-8-go-setup-usb-flash-drive-usb-disk.html

Jeff, see http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/5349-windows-8-go-setup-usb-flash-drive-usb-disk.html?ltr=W Strictly, it is supposed to be Enterprise only, and then for those Enterprises with Software Assurance that requires volume licensing, I think, for these portable installations. Here's the Microsoft Technet Wiki on the subject. Windows To Go Step by Step (en-US) - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

Crex - Welcome to Eightforums! - with the ASUS Zenbook problem. You would do best to start your own thread, rather than continuing an old thread which does not really relate to your problem.

Explore the BIOS - there are possibly options to enable legacy USB support, and to add more boot device options - The USB stick may need to be inserted so that the bios can recognise it. The other external bootable ROM may also need to be enabled first too.
Sadly, the ASUS support pages for the UX32VD are corrupted and do not work.

Searching google on "ux32vd manual" suggests that pressing F9 when booting up will start the factory recovery program.
