Windows 8 and Windows RT?

I think it's so stupid how authors refer to the desktop as the "PC" when in 21st century speak, a PC is basically anything that can run Windows, so a laptop, desktop, or a tablet is considered a PC.

And duh, the desktop is dying, been that way for a couple of years now...

I need to go kill a few mice....

It looks like the mice are killing off the touch PC.

The love affair with Windows 8-powered hybrids is over before it started | ZDNet

I think the man is right on target.

Microsoft bet the farm on touch with Windows 8, and so far it seems that the bet hasn't paid off. While I think that Microsoft certainly needed a response to iOS and Android, shoehorning an entire touch-based user interface into an operating system primarily designed to be driven by a keyboard and mouse made little sense to me at the time it was unveiled, and it seems that it makes little sense to buyers either.

The desktop may be dying, but it will take 100 years before it is dead.

Many people don't need PC's. They need a device to shop, read email, play games, use facebook, etc. PC's were simply their medium into this area in the past. Now they have other choices. And these other choices are more cost effective.

The desktop may be dying, but it will take 100 years before it is dead.

By the, the vast majority of consumers will be using something that isn't a desktop. By then, the situation that has been described over and over and over on said forums is that the enterprise and people who need genuine graphical power will use a desktop. Probably by 100 years, such form factor might only exist in the AIO form factor, no separate tower. Technology changes and will continue to change.
