I have a CZ-17 from iBuyPower, sum my issue up is I had a hard-drive failure and had to re-image. I however did not get a recovery disc with my laptop and was unable to access the recovery partition on the hard drive. iBuyPower is sending my a recovery disc but probably take awhile to get to me and I need to know if there are any other issues with the laptop in case I need to RMA it back to newegg. I was able to find a download for Microsoft for Windows 8 64 bit. I burned the ISO to disc and used my product key with it. Everything worked fine at first but when asked to activate the key it would not take. I think this is because I downloaded Windows 8 Pro 64 bit and my system is probably just running Windows 8 64 bit and not Pro. Question is does anyone know where to download the install file so I can burn the ISO to a DVD?
You could use the method in the tutorial below to download a 64-bit Windows 8 ISO from Microsoft on any 64-bit Windows PC. YOu will need to enter your Windows 8 product key to qualify for the download.
Personally, I would recommend to wait until you get your factory recovery disc from iBuyPower since it will also include all needed drivers and software specific for your CZ-17 PC.
Brink just read the tutorial very informative. Thank you. One question though will I need to load another version of Windows (such as win 7)to be able to use this or can I run it right off the bat?
Since your PC came with Windows 8 preinstalled, the product key number will be imbedded in the PC's BIOS/UEFI firmware. You should be able to do a normal clean install and have the product key recognized automatically during installation.
Okay I started the process as you explained, got only up to the part to enter in my product key and getting an error of "This Product Key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8" I'm guessing this maybe because of this being a retail version of Windows and probably using a OEM copy. Any ideas?
That's what I was afraid of. You could do so in Windows 7, but it appears you no longer can in Windows 8. Looks like you'll need to wait until your disc arrives.
