Solved Windows 8.1 upgrade

Hi Peter2. no problems. when I think of all the dozens of mails back and forth it is a wonder.
I looked at your equipment. Dell to me is in a world of its own. Especially drivers.
I won't help people down here who have Dell. I just can't figure them out on some problems.
I started with window 95! and have had all of them right up to 8.
I am content. I can do image files two ways. I owe it all to theog and you. much I learn from just
messing up the system and re installing it.
I am going back to One of the Virtual Machine packages and play with Linux OS's. I am hoping that
with image I can recover much faster when I make a blunder. I am assuming an image would contain
my vm's as they are all on the c: drive. all ntfs etc.

I wanted to share something with you and see if you can help me with it. This has to do with Win 8.1 and UEFI.

If you use Macrium with the new disc it seems the easiest way to image the system and files and folders and recover them.

if you don't use the disc, you can disable UEFI and use the boot as you used to with the older IOS.

There is an image a recovery in Win 8.1 and I think you go to the control panel and type file history. Look to the lower left and you see system image. I think you can create the image there and recover it in change pc settings adv. etc. etc. till you see recover image.

I don't know if you have to do anything special to recover. I think you can still make a rescue disc here but again don't know if you need to make any adjustments.

If you are asking how to print out a file which you recovered or found from a backup, I just copy then paste the file to Word or an app like it. You can then print or do as you wish.

>>Please be my eyes re: Macr forum for paid users.

Btw, to copy a file either in Windows Computer or Macrium, first mount it and after you copy it to Word, unmount it.
(you can make it writable but I think Word allows you to edit anyway)

I have a feeling you are talking about the saved backup file? as then you just add files to it and increase the files and folders you want to run whenever?

Peter2 just saved hours of re install with my first use of actually restoreing a current image. I am using VMplayer and was making a change in Fedora and got things to a point where I could not recover. so I restored and works just great. also have daily backups of files and folders working so that each morning it backs up at 7AM sends me an e-mail too.

Hi Larry
I am very happy for you.
You are using Macrium, correct?
It has never failed me in about 20 recoveries over the years.
I am going to be imaging before and after Win 8.
I assume you are using the file recovery and also have Macrium set to a schedule. Although you mentioned you have it email you so maybe you image when you are self emailed. I used to do that with Acronis 2010. Acronis had a great feature called Try and Decide. It was a way of virtualizing your OS so you could do what you want and when dome just delete all. I guess a type of sandboxing. its competitor would be Deep Freeze. Acronis would not allow Win 8 so the license is only good to Win 7.
I am going to get my wife a Chromebook as she is pc illiterate and if I could not take care of the machines for her she would be ok with less security, maintenance, breakage etc. I have been familiarizing myself with extensions etc. and want to get used to Google's approach to computing.
Anyway, I am glad you are winning the battle and thank you for the note.
