Windows 8.1 Update 2 to arrive through the Windows Store

The rep claims that Update 2 will land in August/September of this year, and that it will be delivered through the Windows Store much like Windows 8. The rep also claims that Windows 8.1 Update 2 will be a hefty 3GB in size, making us believe that Update 2 won't be like Windows 8.1 Update 1, but more like Windows 8.1 as a whole compared to Windows 8. 3GB is somewhat a significant increase in size compared to Update 1, which maxed at around 700MB.

Windows 8.1 Update 2 to arrive through the Windows Store, and be 3GB in size? | WinBeta

hope it by windows update and not store

They are not "unneeded" updates. What you deleted was the files that would be used to uninstall the previously installed updates. Now that you've cleaned them out, you cannot uninstall those updates.

Actually there's even more NT iterations, 3.5, 3.51, 4.5, 4.51, OS/2 3.0, etc. and many updates for all of them, so to people crying about 3 Win 8 upgrades/updates, all I can say is : "You haven't seen nothing yet".
Don't remember about Win 2000 but XP had 3 SPs, Vista 3, W7 1 one official and all with countless updates. So, actually, with Win 8 it's just "business as usual", nothing special.
Linux, hundreds and heck of more. Apple, not even to talk about.

If you don't care about updates and do not plan to do them, than fine, keep the first version. I can see bunch of reasons to go thru all the updates, security being one of important ones. 8.1 gave me many features more and lowered HW requirements and footprint. Even update 1 had a lot to offer. Quite a few "under the skin" stuff, larger driver base etc. Those updates are not just numbers, each one means something. IE 11 is also there, even if you don't use it, it's deeply ingrained in the system so anything affecting IE affects whole system. If I didn't want changes, I would have stayed with 7.

I don't know where you read I didn't install any updates Count ?
What system cleanup did was remove prior updates not current updates ;)
And by the way I'm using dual boot so win-7 isn't going anywhere :D
Win8 was free so the price was right ;)

I think 2k had 4 SP. lol, I was bored but not that bored to go into great detail. Roll in different versions of IE and you get all kinds of variations. I'm just glad I don't work in IT.

It sometimes happens that Microsoft releases a bad patch. Then you want to be able to uninstall it. When I run disk cleanup I try to do it just before patch Tuesday. That way I know the last updates done have been running for almost a month and it should be safe to remove their uninstall files.

I was just amazed on how many it discovered 11 gig's quite a bit,
But yea I don't use system cleanup very often,

Hey @alphanumeric, @thrashzone, @countmike

I used to do both disk cleanup & system cleanup after a major update or so. I did it about thrice till now since I bought my lappy 2 months back. it was preloaded with win8.1. updated to win 8.1 u1 then latest Tuesday updates. I thought that was quite normal to do...read though some articles searching google. what problems would arise now since I have done cleaning up everything. any I should worry & be cautious? Please advice.

thanks

Visruth

It only becomes a problem if you have to "uninstall" an update because it caused issues with your system. When you do a Windows update it saves any files etc, that it replaces with new ones so you can backtrack and undo it, uninstall it. If you delete those files with a system cleanup you can't uninstall that update, the old files are gone now. That's why I only do it occasionally, and wait a month or so after doing a Windows update to do it. issues usually show up right away if a patch is bad.
