Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8 Pro Upgrade won't complete

I just ran the upgrade assistant again and it says ( Your PCs firmware doesnt support Secure Boot so you wont be able to use it in Windows 8. Is this why it will not install? Motherboard is :ASUS P6X58D-E

My experiences while installing windows 8 pro upgrade (clean install). I decided to upgrade laptop to windows 8.. and do a clean upgrade that means booting from dvd/usb choosing advanced then formating/deleting partitions with previous windows and instaling windows 8. first i created usb bootable with upgrade wizard.
everything goes smooth file copy and then messege to remove usb drive and restart pc pop up i remove usb click ok pc restarst .. windows boots says preparing hardware.. and then blue sceens :) quite fast to see the new blue scren i would say. then PC reboots, and error comes out saying you will need to do all the install over again because system crashed.. i did it one more time same result.
then i decided to try other things in email you get after you buy pgrade you get dowload link for windows 8.. i donwloaded it from other pc and choose to create iso image then made bootable usb stick with windows 7 usb dvd download tool.
But thats not all i decided to see if there is new version of bios for my laptop and there was one so i upgraded my bios.
then booted from usb that was created from iso everything went fine.. did clean install formating my HDD so no remains of previous os was left.
im not sure what helped BIOS upgrade or recreating usb media.

Blue sceen error was irql not less or equal. I think it was bios upgrade that helped.

I was thinking the same thing about the update but I am scared to try it. Is there a spoon fed site that can help me. They say to not use the ASUS update tool, which one then?

I got the same message on my PC and I initially tried the upgrade install route. That worked but my computer was very sluggish. I bit the bullet and did a clean install and it runs great. I had a lot of apps installed on Win7 too but the re-install didn't take as much time as I thought it would. I've already found some apps in the Store to replace a few of my desktop apps.

This is my living room PC with Media Center. Not a gamer.
Mine doesn't support secure boot either.

I wouldn't want that anyway.

It shouldn't be a problem.

You should use bios upgrade tool from your motherboard manufacturer if you have asus laptop then its best to use tool that asus recommends.
problems with BIOS update. you should never turn of power when bios upgrade is in progress, if its desktop i recommend to use UPS or if its laptop that you have charged battery if ac power cuts off. the other problem is crashing of your pc during the upgrade procedure thats why if you use upgrade utility that runs in windows your windows should be stable and clean. thats why some may recommend bootable media upgrade because that doesnt involve windows. some manufacturers has bios upgrade tool integrated inside their bios, when pc boots there is bios menu for bios flahing. some uses simple bootable dos like environment.
other problem that may arise use of wrong bios.. BIOS that is for different motherboard or even other revision of motherboard
you should look what your motherboard manufacturer offers

I would say yes but it's for you to try and see for yourself, why don't you create a partition and install 90 day trial RTM version to see how it performs.
