Solved WiFi Driver

Our new neighbors across the street may have been using our Guest WiFi before it was locked, because they are getting Internet right now as we speak of their own.
Funny how that works!

If true, that is called "theft of services" and is the same serious criminal offense as if someone tapped into your power and was stealing electricity, or put a splitter on your cable and was stealing cable TV. It is also illegal to knowingly allow it to happen.

You could also consider bandwidth limiting your guest network, I normally set things up to allocate about 20% - 30% of the full bandwidth, as a maximum, to the guest network, which has it's own password, IP range,(for true virtual networks), and no access to the main network. This means that even if a guest tries to hog all the bandwidth they cannot.

The way that these trhings work is that the main network has access to all the bandwidth, so if no guests are on the system it does not effect the main users at all.

Check out you options on your router - it's normally found under QOS settings

If you know the IP range allocated to the guest network it should be possible to filter the router logs to show any unauthorised access over a time period with out the need to manually check the router for long periods

We have a regular modem/router supplied by our service provider that we connect to. It has a Guest option, but it doesn't work. Then we have an extra router plugged up to the modem. It has a locked access point, but now it has 2 since the Guest one is locked. They were probably using the 3rd access point which was open that was on our extra router.

That is not the problem here. If you go back through the thread to get the gist of the subject, you will see this is about unauthorized users gaining access through an unsecured guest account. It is no longer insecure so problem resolved.

I understand that the basic issue here has hopefully been solved by the additional security, my suggestion was meant as an additional control measure.

QOS can ensure that the people paying for the service always have access to it ;).

I have always added QOS on the various Real & Virtual Access points in network systems I have designed for clients, as this type of granular control is advantageous, especially in a business situation where you are providing Guest access to visitors Etc. but need to ensure that you still have enough bandwidth to run the business .

In my home situation a few local neighbours have agreed to make a portion of their bandwidth available to others in the group, as we are mostly with different ISPs if there is any form of outage in supply from 0ne ISP, net access is still available by "borrowing" some bandwidth from others. I make available 20% of my 40/10 Mb/s to the others via a WPA2 protected Guest network, others provide a similar amount of their bandwidth.
