Why Surface could harm Microsoft’s tablet success

Hardware manufacturers angry at Microsoft’s decision to launch its own tablet could scupper the software giant’s aspirations to break into the consumer tablet OS market.

Acer CEO and chairman JT Wang yesterday criticised Microsoft for producing Microsoft Surface, a Microsoft-branded Windows 8 tablet that will launch in October and compete against slates produced by Acer and other OEMs.

The Surface Pro would be the thing for me. At this point I don't see an upper hand in Surface with WinRT over Windows Phones, but with 8 Pro, an attachable keyboard and, optionally, a wireless mouse, something like the new Microsoft Wedge Mouse - that would be hella sweet!

No announcement on specific pricing has been made, Microsoft says they will be competative to other tablets.
