First let me ask you. Do you want to keep your current Windows 7 installation? The reason I ask is because if you buy the Windows 8 upgrade, the EULA says you give up all rights to your Windows 7 installation. I take that to mean, once you do the upgrade you can no longer legally restore that version of Windows 7 on your laptop. If I am wrong, I am sure someone here will correct me. In order to avoid this you would need to purchase the retail version, or the OEM version. The retail version is the most expensive because it allows you to install that copy of Windows 8 on any computer you want, as long as it is used on just one machine at a time. The OEM version is cheaper, but will be tied to just that particular laptop. What ever you decide to do, installing Windows 8 is a breeze and Brink has some great tutorials on how to do it.
