tradition TN displays are fine for the desktop.

They are fine, but they aren't great. IPS panels look so much nicer, better colors, better contrast and better viewing angles.

Why the hell would you want finger marks all over a monitor? The monitor is for viewing the keyboard, mouse or touchpad are for data entry/interaction.

I'm cleaning off fingerprints off my laptop screen and it's not even a touchscreen. Touching my monitor would drive me nuts. I have no interest in it.

ViewSonic outs three Windows 8-certified touchscreen displays

ViewSonic's just revealed a trio of 10-point touch displays with 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and 20,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratios, and they're Windows 8-certified, to boot.


Each monitor comes loaded with DisplayPort, HDMI, VGA and USB compatibility.





Get ready for some sticker shock... I guess if you're used to paying for things like the Apple Displays, you should feel comfortable with these prices...


The 23-inch TD2340 features a dual hinge stand that can be adjusted four ways, which allows the monitor to pivot or lay flat. It will be available this month for $599.
The 27-inch TD2740 model, brings a picture frame stand which allows it to lay flat. That's coming in available in February for $799.
If you're feeling particularly generous with your cash, the business-minded $2,499 TD3240 sports a 32-inch screen alongside a stand for kiosk usage and will be up for grabs this April.




And then Lenovo brought out the monster all-in-one PC, the IdeaCentre Horizon which is a 27" all-in-one:

What's getting annoying with the touch monitors is that they are literally close to the price of an actual touch AIO PC with an i3/i5. Really right now? And they don't have stellar contrast ratios either, very few IPS panels out there.

I must not be understanding the economics here as you can buy a 23 inch touch monitor off Newegg for about 3-400 dollars. The latest ones are at least 500 and up, where a decent one is costing as much as an ultrabook, and larger than 23 inch screens result in about 100 dollars per inch more. Gee....

Touchscreens on many touch PCs I've used don't smudge that easily. Even Gorilla Glass 2 doesn't smudge that easily.

Well, I am always cleaning my phone and tablet screen...so I hope they figure out a way to not leave fingerprints and such behind.

From my Lumia 900 and 920 with the newer Gorilla Glass, smudges are like reduced CONSIDERABLY. I thought it was because it's winter, but from my smudge tests, it's generally overall less smudgy. Gorilla Glass 3 I've read might actually be much less smudgable.

In my opinion, yes. Is it necessary? No. Do I still use the keyboard and mouse extensively? Yes.

I purchased a touch screen monitor at the time Windows 8 first came out and believe that made the difference between liking Windows 8 (which I do) and not liking Windows 8. I am looking forward to Windows 10, not because of the return of the start menu, but because it's supposed to allow metro apps to run in separate windows.
