Solved VLC?

As you can see, it's working under Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64, which got installed as a clean-installation.
I use VLC v2.0.5 and have additionally the K-Lite-Codecs v9.8.5 (full installation / everything ticked) installed.
There are also no issues when I use the WMP v12.0.9200.16420, which is far better then under Windows-7-Ultimate-SP1-x64.

Maybe you should use Your Uninstaller! + CCleaner to un-install / clean your system, as it has to be on your end.

Okay did a simple test, basically just told VLC to load the DVD I knew it'd take awhile but didn't know how long. So, I came back on my lunch break and low and behold it's playing the R2 DVD.

Now the issue is, why is it taking so long? The disk is perfect absolutely no scratches. I don't know if it's the drive itself, I think I have it's sata cable connected to a 3GBPS connection instead of 6 (don't if it will affect but again it's instant loading in osx and Linux after codecs were installed (tried on various distros same result instant loading)).

Okay so I know it works now, issue now is.. how to get this sped up? It takes about 5 minutes to load, about 30 seconds to a minute with version 1.1.9. So to me it's down to the code itself, I am a software engineer as it's what I do for a living and why I live in Linux (I only use windows for software like Photoshop but barely anymore thanks to my new iMac and will be getting the new mac pro this summer).

It also could be the encryption, I know r2 dvds use strict encryption where US or R1 dvds are a little less strict.

Here is my optical drive that I'm using, if you know of a better one (one that loads instant) let me know, I actually like this drive.
"Samsung Blu-ray Model SH-B123L" I know it's the code but could also be the drive, will try a 6GBPS sata connection when I get off work.

HDD and optical Drives are only SATA-3 compatible, but can't really transfer data with such a speed, so it's not really important if you use SATA-2 and not SATA-3.

Maybe make an image of a slow DVD and mount it via UltraISO (or any other similar tool) and see if it starts playing the movie faster. It would be maybe a good idea as well if you try to play the DVD with another player, WMP as an example, to see if there is any difference.

If there is a difference in playing the DVD with another player, then it would point to a software problem, but if you get a difference when using an image of a DVD, then it would point more likely towards the optical drive.

I only use LG-Drives, as they are not fossy about different disk-brand's, as their drives really "eat" everything.

Another thing which could be an issue is the cache / previous settings of VLC, which can be fixed with resetting everything when re-installing VLC (there is an option to tick).

You could check for an Firmware-Update as well.

Do you use AnyDVD in the background or something similar ?

That statement made you sound like a daft fool. I have worked in multiple companies that develop software and some of the most senior developers do in fact use a MacBook pro. Our software architect uses one, our development manager uses one, and the director of global IT uses one. In fact my director highly suggested that us IT guys in the US should get MacBook pros as well during our tech refresh. He was a bit surprised when 3 of us declined.

I'm bumping my own topic as I believe I solved this issue, the issue is with he windows 8 build itself as I've tried VLC and compiled from source and the dvd reads in 1.5 seconds so it's not VLC it's the build. So what I plan on doing is compiling VLC using Mingw(which stands for Minimal GNU) and supports GCC 4.8. The Source from Linux, Windows BSD, OS X is the same it's just compiled differently with each system (poorly on windows in my opinion if it takes longer than 15 seconds but runs better on another OS with the same source and hardware it's the build).

I also talked to one of the VLC devs and they said they do not cross compile, which means gcc was not used for the windows build. I've also talked to other people who had the same issue (long dvd read and they also tried it on linux albet I used Gentoo but they used something Like Arch Linux or Ubuntu) and they got the same result (instant DVD read for some, a few seconds for others).

Even after compiling from source it still loads the dvd slow, media player classic - home theater version actually loads it as fast as VLC on Linux. I'm curious, why does VLC suck on Windows where as it works better on Linux?

Anyways, MPC-HC seems perfect for DVDs not so much blurays though.
