Valve hates Win 8 - Ready to make Steam games work on Linux instead

Tell that to the casual Steam gamer on Windows. Instead of learning a few new things of a new UI, you'd be telling them, "Nope, go to a totally foreign operating system you've probably never heard of with program support that doesn't exist without difficulty all just to play a few games."

Yep, sound logic right there.

Comeon now, Windows 7 isnt that foreign :p

The vast majority of PC gamers have already heard of Linux, its nothing new to them.

I agree - many of the new Linux distro's have a GUI that is very similar to Windows. Some, can even be very easily customised to behave in the same way.

Linux's problems are not entirely from the OS Stand point itself. It's community does it the most harm, however that is changing I think. I refer to them as Linazi's. Also, the software for Linux is not always well supported, and support is dropped at any given time, and if you can't complie stuff (try getting a normal user to compile something with they have trouble with a start button).

Linux still has a long way to go before it will be uber mainstream.

Doesn't bother me what Steam does.

Because I WILL NOT buy a game that I have to go online to buy, activate OR play.

No matter what OS it runs on.

A standalone hard-copy from a brick & mortar store, that can be installed and played
with NO net access whatsoever is the only way I'll buy 'retail' games.

And as for 'pay-to-play', well that needs to be put where the sun never shines.
